Warbird Information Exchange

Well I finally got a ride in Purdue's deHaviland Chipmunk (ex-WB750) today. It's going up for sale soon, and I begged for a ride before it's gone. I figured after years of working on it, I deserved a ride. Did some wing overs, loops, rolls, and spins....didn't get sick, but my lunch from McDonald's was flip flopping in my stomach. Wish I'd known earlier that we were going, I'd have changed the menu! If anyone's interested in a 1950 DHC-1 (English, not a Canadian) Chipmunk, let me know. I can get more details on the sale. We also have a 1952 Chipmunk (WK635) in pieces, not sure if the 2 are being sold together or separate.

Sounds very cool. My brother learned to fly while at Purdue -or was suposed to. I was pretending to go to Ball State in the transmission capital of the midwest.

I went to visit him once and saw Hefners Big Bunny there. Was it a black 707? 727?

My brother had "bad luck" in the air and we never flew without some kind of "adventure" happening. lost engines, no electrics, almost landing on top of another guy in the pattern... pilot building stuff like that.

He was alway cool about it. We walked away from every landing, except the guy that snuck in under us while landing. I just happened to look out and down and yelled "PLANE!" The view quickly turned from horizontal to vertical as we relocated to another part of the sky... One Big Mac coming up.

Aero, thanks for the story. It's been awhile since "BIG BUNNY" was at Purdue. She was a DC-9 N950PB. I worked with a guy who did maintenace on her. Hugh sold her, and she reverted to a regular airliner. I believe up until fairly recently she was flying with Aero Mexico.
