New P40 Flying in Australia?

Hi all,

Does anyone know just how many P-40's are currently in Australia/New Zealand. Thats both flying and static/under restoration. With all the recoveries in recent years im just curious about how high the current population is.

The answer is - i don't know and perhaps no one does with any certainty and what do you mean by "In Australia"

I'm not trying to be a pain but there is a grey area in relation to all of this and I will try to explain. I will give a listing of ones I know of off the top of my head and others can then fill in the gaps

1) There are a list of all the obvious known machines
AWM - on display - static
RAAFM Under restoration - static
Judy Pay - about to fly
Murray Griffiths - flying
Murray Griffiths - 2/3 through restoration to fly
Col Pay - about to fly
Moorabin Museum - Static
Plus 3 or 4 with private owners scattered around the country

2) Unknown - or undiscovered machines
?

3) Forigen machines here for restoration
3 or 4 at Murray Griffiths for USA owners

4) Machines which may come to Australia or are temporilly out of the country being restored
?

The nature of warbirds is that there is always an element of cloak and dagger and you will always not have full information on what is around.

I welcome all our lurkers to fill in the gaps in my info as I have done it from my unreliable memory

A few years back I'm cooresponded with a fellow in either NZ or Australia who had a couple P-40s-John Chambers. Is he familar to you. It'd be interesting to know which ones those were. One I think was a 'M'.

I think this Mr Chambers is a Kiwi (NZ) and has quite a few warbirds
i am sure we can get confirmation from some of our Kiwi collegues any minute - if not I will research it tomorrow for you. The Kiwis operated Ms so it sounds correct.

John Chambers had his P-40M NZ3119 at the Subritzky workshops in Auckland, not sure if it is still there though.
Check the Pioneer website for the multitude of P-40s they have restored in NZ
