Have you lisytened to the audio version of the book? It's really great because Frank McCourt does the reading. You really get the feeling of the accent and uniqueness of the Irish speech patterns.
Well worth listening to even if you e read the book!

Sergeant Major Basil Plumley: Sir, Custer was a kittie. You ain't.

Dadburn it, the gol-darn "Family Friendly Filter" diluted post once again. :x

It's supposed to read "Sir, Custer was a PU55Y. You ain't." Made all the better because it was delivered in Sam Elliott's dead-pan, bone-dry Texas drawl.

"NVA..it's what's for dinner." (OK..I made that one up.)

"Alpha..Mike..Foxtrot..."

- Willem DaFoe, just before he gets naped by Sandies in "Flight of the Intruder" (I always assumed it was some kind of call sign..it was years before I found out what it REALLY meant..)

George Wilbur: "I used a Hewlett Packard HP 2700 with flame gas chromatagraph and duel spectrum analization."

DA Jim Trotter: "Is that turbocharged?"

George Wilbur: "Only on the floor models."

and later in the same film...

DA Jim Trotter (slapping hands together): "IDENTICAL!"

Sorry...one more from the same film!

D.A. Jim Trotter: Now, uh, Ms. Vito, being an expert on general automotive knowledge, can you tell me... what would the correct ignition timing be on a 1955 Bel Air Chevrolet, with a 327 cubic-inch engine and a four-barrel carburetor?

Mona Lisa Vito: It's a bull***it question.

D.A. Jim Trotter: Does that mean that you can't answer it?

Mona Lisa Vito: It's a sugar question, it's impossible to answer.
D.A. Jim Trotter: Impossible because you don't know the answer!

Mona Lisa Vito: Nobody could answer that question!

D.A. Jim Trotter: Your Honor, I move to disqualify Ms. Vito as a "expert witness"!

Judge Chamberlain Haller: Can you answer the question?

Mona Lisa Vito: No, it is a trick question!

Judge Chamberlain Haller: Why is it a trick question?

Vinny Gambini: [to Bill] Watch this.

Mona Lisa Vito: 'Cause Chevy didn't make a 327 in '55, the 327 didn't come out till '62. And it wasn't offered in the Bel Air with a four-barrel carb till '64. However, in 1964, the correct ignition timing would be four degrees before top-dead-center.

D.A. Jim Trotter: Well... um... she's acceptable, Your Honor.

Wil Smith in "Independence Day:"

"Oh no, you did NOT shoot that green s**t at ME!"

And Randy Quaid:

"Hello Boys, I'm BAAAACK!"

The collector's edition DVD has the original ending. Originally, Randy Quaid's character was told he couldn't take part in the final battle because he was a drunk. He later shows up on a Kamikaze mission after everybody else is out of missiles, with a maverick strapped to the side of his Stearman..then flies into the heart of the mother ship and blows it up. The director said the scene got great laughs from test audiences, but he just didn't think it was dramatic enough, so it the film was re-cut with new scenes of Quaid in an F-18. Actually, the dialog in the final scene makes a lot more sense if you know how it originally played out..I always thought it was strange that the controllers and other pilots don't know who Quaid is or where he came from, or that he still has a missile.

Still one of my all-time favorite "popcorn" movies. Totally implausible, but great mindless fun!

When asked if there were any pilots with military experience. Randy Quaid says "I'm pilot, I fly." :drinkers: :)

Midnight run with Robert De Niro is a great movie with alot of great lines and a old bi-plane thrown in too.
"Looks like I'm walking" :P
