Wow, what's up with the hostility? THAT object is a source of National pride for OUR country. Not a Warbird? Maybe not in the true sence of the word, but it was funded partially by the DOD, has flown numerous DOD missions launching DOD satallite's and a majority of it's crews are current/former military pilots. THAT object often lands at Edwards AFB. One of them will end up in the National Museum of the USAF when she retires.
I posted the picture because I thought it was funny - sorry it offended you (not really. Your reference to it as "THAT object" is insulting) - yikes...

wow, someone woke up pissed off this morning.

:x

Well, it does haul military loads and most of its pilots have been military trained!

Plus, its ours and we can call it what we want!!

Didn't you see Armageddon?

Thanks for posting, apg85. Great way to start the day! Did you take the picture?

shuttle

Guys, don't take every post as so serious. I thought it was a funny picture, even though I am not a fan of the space program as it seems to consume a huge amount of tax money with little real return to most people not in that industry. Not that Tang isn't great, I just prefer that God grown original stuff of which the finest fruit in the country comes from the Rio Grand Valley of Texas. And with the short range of most Spits I don't have much use for those special NASA diapers.

I disagree...

Not to mention the thousands upon thousands of people employed as a result over the years...

You have a point there Bill, while a NASA scientist may have uses for such things as computers, portable electronics, GPS, satellite TV, emissions testing, solar technology, LEDs, and fire resistant materials, I can't see any average Joe using any of the things.

Don't we talk about anything aviation related in this forum? It's not just a warbird forum. Unless for the last several years I have missed that part out. What an insult!

Can't we all just get along? :?

The advances in medical technology alone have been worth their weight in gold. Anyone who walks into a hospital for care can thank the space program for some part of that care especially if it involved any type of equipment i.e. ultrasound, etc.
How did posting a humorous picture turn into bashing the US Space Program? I'll never make that mistake again on this forum...

I like it. It's humorous.
How many posts have we had about planes that never fired a shot? Plenty.
Most of youse troops even put up with my flying lesson postings.
What's the harm?

Well, it must be ok with the moderators since they never say anything about the off topic stuff. But they haven't so we figure it is ok to occasionally talk about a 707 or in this case a space shuttle.
