They've had that shark-mouth PT-26 for years. Apparently it was a donation from a private individual..used to hang in the Annex hangar.

Great to see the Shiden-Kai (George) back on her feet! I'd been getting worried..they tore her down about ten years ago, then the project languished on the back burner for a long time.

geez, it's been about 20 years since I've been to wright pat. We used to go camping on the base when I was a Boy Scout. We would get the F-4 alarm clock, that'll wake a bunch of boys up!

Great looking photo's and Thanks for sharing them. BUT....what the heck is the bird that is bare metal in the photo below the Army version of the SBD Dauntless ? I KNOW it isn't a Thunderbolt, because the landing gear is all wrong. But as that plane sits there it is making me pull whats left of my hair out trying to figure out what it is

Any ideas there folks ??

Kawanishi N1K2-J Shiden Kai, to be specific. Probably the Japanese Navy's finest WWII fighter.

They brought her into the shop for some minor repairs and paintwork about ten years ago, but discovered all sorts of nasty corrosion, and tore her completely apart. Then she sat for several years while other projects had priority. Good to see she's made it back to the front of the line!
