I love the "three tours in Nam and one in Iraq".

Very plausible career path, I think.

Does he have a genuine Medal of Honor? If so, where does an imposter get one? Can you just buy them at a swap meet or airshow or ebay? Are they commonly sold, or do people make bogus copies? Have I showed you guys my Medal? I was with Forrest Gump, or was it Forrest Gregg on a top secret mission. Time and too much Redman sort of dulls the details. Anyway I keep it on the shelf right next to my Heisman Trophy, and don't sell either one on ebay.

I'm not 100% sure if "imposter" is a fair word to use for this guy. When cornered, he still held to his story. To me, that would suggest that maybe he actually believes it. Most people spewing BS, when caught busted, usually don't keep going with a lie. This guy just might need some meds and a lot of head-shrink time.
There was a guy where I grew up, would walk around this small town wearing a uniform with General's rank. I once asked a local if that he really was a General because he was old enough to have been one, I was told the guy was nuts, really believed he was but nobody thought he'd ever serve a day. Guys like that have greater issues than just being a fraud.
That being said, nuts or not, the guy is committing a crime and should be punished accordingly. Being an Army vet myself, I find wearing medals not awarded reprehensible. I just wanted to give another perspective because to me, this guy might be more nuts than a liar.

I never really found it reprehensable. Just sort of sad. Obviously these guys have some pretty deep issues, and it seems like they should be pitied more thhan hated. How can you hate a crazy person? I'm glad they got found out (hopefully it will lead to some mental help for them) and I am glad the source is shut down, and it's been ade illegal. But a few loons wearing The Medal doesn't make me think any less of the men who earned it, or those who never recieved it but whom it honors.I served under his gentleman in The Old Guard. It was probably the greatest honor of my career. He was a real warrior, and an inteligent, devoted gentleman.

FOLEY, ROBERT F.

Rank and organization: Captain, U.S. Army, Company A, 2d Battalion, 27th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division. Place and date: Near Quan Dau Tieng, Republic of Vietnam, 5 November 1966. Entered service at: Newton, Mass. Born: 30 May 1941, Newton, Mass. Citation: For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. Capt. Foley's company was ordered to extricate another company of the battalion. Moving through the dense jungle to aid the besieged unit, Company A encountered a strong enemy force occupying well concealed, defensive positions, and the company's leading element quickly sustained several casualties. Capt. Foley immediately ran forward to the scene of the most intense action to direct the company's efforts. Deploying 1 platoon on the flank, he led the other 2 platoons in an attack on the enemy in the face of intense fire. During this action both radio operators accompanying him were wounded. At grave risk to himself he defied the enemy's murderous fire, and helped the wounded operators to a position where they could receive medical care. As he moved forward again 1 of his machine gun crews was wounded. Seizing the weapon, he charged forward firing the machine gun, shouting orders and rallying his men, thus maintaining the momentum of the attack. Under increasingly heavy enemy fire he ordered his assistant to take cover and, alone, Capt. Foley continued to advance firing the machine gun until the wounded had been evacuated and the attack in this area could be resumed. When movement on the other flank was halted by the enemy's fanatical defense, Capt. Foley moved to personally direct this critical phase of the battle. Leading the renewed effort he was blown off his feet and wounded by an enemy grenade. Despite his painful wounds he refused medical aid and persevered in the forefront of the attack on the enemy redoubt. He led the assault on several enemy gun emplacements and, single-handedly, destroyed 3 such positions. His outstanding personal leadership under intense enemy fire during the fierce battle which lasted for several hours, inspired his men to heroic efforts and was instrumental in the ultimate success of the operation. Capt. Foley's magnificent courage, selfless concern for his men and professional skill reflect the utmost credit upon himself and the U.S. Army.

Good info, but surprising that there are so many fakes. I thought that if there were it might have been a foreign source. Guess there are some people that will do most anything for money. If they are made by the same co. that made the origianl it may be be impossible to tell if one was truly awarded.

I would agree that if it's somebody with mental issues they need treatment, but if it's somebody who's knowingly slinging a load of BS then throw the book at them!

I never served, and refuse to wear any kind of military insignia. Years ago I got an A-2 jacket as a gift, and considered sticking some unit patches on it, but it just didn't feel right. I don't have a problem with re-enactors and such, who are obviously playing a part and aren't trying to decieve anyone, but those who wear insignia they didn't earn really bug me.

I used to volunteer at a museum, and one of my fellow volunteers used to constantly regail us with tales of military derring-do (as far as anyone can tell, he never served a day in his life.) His favorite was how he made a "barrier landing" on an aircraft carrier in an AH-1 Sea Cobra during the gulf war. He also claimed the have a girlfriend who was flying F/A-18s in Afghanistan, and claimed she took him up for a ride while home on leave (mind you, the guy weighs nearly 300 lbs..no way he'd fit in a G-suit, much less a fighter cockpit!) But the kicker was the last time I saw him, wearing a pair of gold wings. I was talking to a real retired Naval Aviator at the time..when he saw the wings, he began asking the guy about his training and service. Of course, the wannabe aviator quickly realized he had to be somewhere else.

You know guys, I am almost a Medal of Honor winner from the Grenada War. Now if you get picky about little details, I wasn't part of the invasion and didn't actulaly get any medal; but I did go to Grenada on vacation, man is that a beautful place. Sometime ask me the story about the lady in the bathtub when the Iguana came through the window.
