Could it be Raybourne Thompson's? This one is based at Covey Trails, off FM-1053 (Westheimer Road) in far West Houston.
It was recently flown for the first time, after a lenghty restoration to what I am told are very hight standards.
Saludos,
Tulio

Actually, the first flight was back in Feb or March which was cut short by
a hydraulic failure. So it had to go back down for repairs prior to paint shop. As I understand, it is a former Free-French Spit and was to be in those colours.
Must be time to get photobucket...so I can post some photos.

All the numbers are painted over with primer and the emblems, etc are being taped out and slowly respayed.
I was told by the Lone Star Flight Museum Chief Pilot, Tom Cleveland, who was flying Tarheel Hal, P-47 that evening, the Spit was in for a paint job, that it flew on DDay. It won't have invasion stripes tho.
One of the painters showed me a glossy brochure on a Spitfire this one was going to be modeled partly after. I was also told the owner was meticulous about having everything original. Could not examine much *guns, ports etc) as it was all masked over. The cowlings etc were also laid out for priming too. I had heard there was a super paint shop at Hooks. Now I believe it.
I will go out and check on it as time/work permits and keep the news coming, on the Bearcat too.
Hard to believe I have a Spitfire and other such cool planes nearly in my back yard!!! Hooks has a great grill/restaurant for lunch, so it is convenient to scope out whats at the airport at lunchtime.
Tulio, are you near Houston?
