A hoax.

We have seen it before, dunno remember exactly when.

It is one of those "what if" creations.

One of the C-47 Floats is about the size of a B-25, which would be a very aerodynamicly challenged aeroplane!

Some time ago (probably within the last year or so) the subject of this particular Messerschmitt (Bf) was brought up on a Spanish aviation forum.

It was believed to be true, until someone pointed out that the story came out from a "fantasy" aviation group. A what if... creation.

The guy who created the story had a web-page with a link to another page, where he accepted that he had made up the whole thing.

I forgot how big the C-47 is, how about a float mounted B-17?

Why not try a float mounted bf 109? They put floats on lots of things.

But the P-51 would lose all its good fighter tricks with two big uglly floats.
B-17 on floats? Just use an H8K or a Corenado.

Sure Scott,
we'll hang a pair of Floats on a 17 and sling a couple of torpedos underneath. That would make it a TBB-17A Flying Torpedo, right! :shock:

I rather like that one! Don't think the wings would have been strong enough on the old '109, though.

As I recall, the floatplane Spitfire WAS a success. There was just no requirement for it - oh well

Daz, The Spitfire, Rufe and 1/2 doz other float fighters, converted or not were fine against less punchy machines, but anything with a float or two was easy meat for a floatless fighter...

Your homework for tonight is name 1/2 doz W.W.II floatplane fighters, and for the swots, which was the one converted to a frontline landplane fighter from a float fighter, rather than the other way around?
