During the repaint one should keep an eye out for what apeared to be a patched bullet hole on one of the wings. I forget if it was the right or left side, or the outer portion or inner. I don't know if this was a result of combat or being a resident of China Lake. If it was the outer portion, it may have come off of a different bird entirly. Just thought I'd point that out.

The wings aren't original to the a/c.
Remember this is a AD-5W Guppy

What do you mean by that? As far as I know the AD5 and AD4 etc wings are interchangable. Why wouldn't the AD-5W have it's original wings?

I have seen photos of the aircraft at China Lake w/out wings. It is entirely possible that the ones on it now are off another aircraft. It's not like I've checked part numbers or read the maint. logs though. It's also possible that the damage came from China Lake. I'm not sure what role the aircraft played out there, or if it spent any time on a target range.

Don't know why. I recall being told that they were not the originals
though  :?:

I am glad they aren't going with camo, I love the camo paint schemes, but I don't think they should all be in that scheme.

I wonder if anyone will ever choose to replicate an early USAF grey scheme circa 1964. I know it's not real glitzy but the big black exhaust arc might help the airplane to appear a little cleaner inbetween wipedowns.
