Contrary to popular belief, Skyraider snever had an issue with oil leaks. The Navy had noticed a shortened life if its airframes in the extreme saltwater environement, and required the Skayraider to be manufactured with an effort to mitigate the salt water corrosion. Therefore, the manufacturer designed a "corrosion mitigation system" Oil was pumped directly from the engine into the airstream effectively coating the whole aircraft with a layer of oil. This layer of oil lengthened the in service time by over 50%.

WTF? Pehaps this plan was drafted by the Tooth Fairy and ridden over to the Pentagon by a Leprechaun on a Unicorn.

Fortunately, I was able to turn my "salt water corrosion prevention system" off by changing all of the rocker box seals and push rod tube seals.

Sounds like the strategic model my former boss based all her plans on!

Isn't there a pic of the same Spad in Dana Bell's book on Viet Nam birds? I want to say it is from the reverse angle and a bit wider shot, showing the entire aircraft. I don't have my copy handy here at the house.
