Hi all,
Well the second UFO got solved incredibly quickly so I thought I'd put up another item. The only number that I can find on the piece is FN 42966. Looking forward to hearing any thoughts on this one.

Either a trimming mechanism, or a radio tuning unit. The L5 has a unit like the armored cable in the tail as part of its elevator trim mechanism. The armored cable was also used on mixture controls, radio tuning and switching mechanisms, etc. FN- seen it somewhere before as a parts number prefix, but not sure where. I'll check the pile.

John, I'm not familiar w/ the cowl flap mech on the Loadstar, but what is shown in the pics appears to be identical to what was used in the B-29!

Matt, what you have there exactly is a screw jack (opened/closed the flap) and a flexible drive shaft.

Some interesting responses this time but it seems like it's definitely a cowl flap drive mechanism. John (Lane) thanks for your expert opinion mate. Although the RAAF operated some Lodestars, I don't think any of these were disposed of near where I acquired this item. Venturas certainly were though, so is there any chance that the same item was used on them? While I'm in communication with you, I'd just like to congratulate you on the magnificent quality of your restorations. Keep up the great work.

Trev, it's quite possibly another B-29 piece and the beast would certainly have had a few of these on board.
