Here's a clip from "Baa Baa Black Sheep". What I liked most about this show was it's AMAZING attention to accuracy & authenticity. You'll also agree that each episode was historically correct in every detail.
Especially in the final season...

Watch here as "PAPPY" & His Corsairs bravely escort Bob Morgan & the Memphis Belle on a dangerous mission over Wilhelmshavin. I'm sure Bob Morgan & Crew were all delighted & proud when they first saw this episode:

Thank God these priceless episodes are now carefully preserved on DVD to help future WW2 Aviation Historians ... Digger

Bob Morgan and the crew of "Memphis Belle" turn up an awful lot in some really odd places. The footage was used is many, many movies. IIRC, "Memphis Belle" is the opening scene of a movie made in 1968, but I can't remember the title.

Did you happen to notice the Spitfires and Messerschmitt's too?

That's too funny! Whatever some of you guys may say about this show (historically inaccurate ... blah, blah, blitty blah), or Boyington, it's still a lot of fun to watch.
I loved it when I was a kid when it was originally on. I don't remember the Belle escort episode, but of course I had no idea who Bob Morgan was or anything about the Memphis Belle back then.
I do remember having a raging case of the adolescent hots for Denise DuBarry, however.

Ha! Ha! Yeah, I love the show too... It's alot of fun to watch & spot all the misteaks. My favorite were "Pappy's Lambs", especially when they fought the Japanese whenever they attacked the base. I think Robert Conrad's Daughter was one of them. If so, I'm guessing nobody messed with Her on the set!! Didn't know the 2nd part of Season 1 has been released. I'll have to get it ....

Actor/Comedian Tim Allen kinda reminds Me of Robert Conrad a bit. I'd like to see Him portray "Gabby Gabreski" in a WW2 ETO P-51 Squadron Series. A combination of "Baa Baa Black Sheep" & "MASH" set at a P-51 base. Complete with Oddball Characters & "GABBY'S GALS" of course!! With all the P-51's laying around, I don't think it would be that difficult. Who wouldn't want thier prized Warbird in a TV show!!

Gee, I wonder if Bob Morgan & the rest of the Memphis Belle Crew ever received any "royalties" for all thier many TV & Film appearences over the years?? .... Digger

I must've read wrong. I thought one of the problems with the Bf-109 was poor range, but if they could get all the way out to the Pacific, I clearly misunderstood.

While I have many of the same criticisms of Baa Baa Black Sheep that most of you do, I still have a fondness for the series because (as a 6 year old at the time) it was was the first thing that got me interested in warbirds. While I would like to think I would have gained the same interest in warbirds without that inspiration, I am glad the show planted that seed in my young mind at that time. Sometimes our interests and inspirations are all about the right timing.

I can still recall running around in the yard after watching that show, "dogfighting" with my brother as we chased each other around trees and bushes.

Ol Pappy seemed to be pretty evasive with his answers. Was I imagining
it or did he say/imply the he had to punch a few of his pilots to keep them in line? I imagine Jack Bolt orNotebook Henry Miller and find that very hard to imagine!

I was born in 1965 & just getting into WW2 when this show first aired. I thought it was AWESOME, but felt like I was the only kid in America watching it. Nobody at My school ever mentioned it...
I was amazed when I visited My cousin's house way out in the country one summer. All the nieghborhood kids gathered around the TV to watch the show!! Ha! Ha! It was like a "Waltons" episode or something. I remember meeting "Pappy" Boyington at Osh Kosh in the early 80's & getting an autographed "Black Sheep" book. I still have it. Anyone else remember that too?? ... Digger

I've got an idea for a new TV series. Bring back Bob Conrad to play old, grumpy Pappy hawking his book at airshows and making little kids cry when he won't give 'em a free autograph.

I remember when it first came out, our local NBC affiliate wouldn't show it at first! I don't think we even had Cable TV in the area then, just a good ol' antenna & about 5 channels. They showed "High Chaparral" in its place. Not that there's anything wrong with that show, but........... One rumor I heard was it was a racial thing(?) I guess since it had 'black' in the title......... (Well, I am in Miss.) Anyway, they FINALLY started showing it on Saturday afternoons & also late Saturday nights, about 11:00 pm or 12:00 am. By '78, they were showing it at 7:00 pm. My first visit to Harlingen, Airsho' 76, I got Pappy's book & had it autographed. In May of '78, my first dyal X/C with my CFI dad was to an airshow in Grenada, Ms, where again Pappy was, peddling his wares & I got an autographed print of "Lulubelle". I loved that show then & still enjoy it, but it's way hoakier than when I was a teen! Somehow, about that time, I got an autographed b & w 5 x 7 of Conrad as Pappy "Thanks for your support, Robert Conrad". Maybe I signed a petition or something.
