Ok, maybe this is a silly question BUT where are there U-2 a/c to be found in museums? Also, has anyone seen a U-2 do a fly-by at an airshow?

A U-2 (TR-1 actually) made an appearance at the Phoenix 500 Air Races some years back. That's the only time I have seen one fly.

There is a reasonable intact example on display in China, shot down at some stage. Also the mortal remains of one at the Moscow War Museum.

I saw a U-2 at a Westover ARB in Mass in 1991 or 2. They had it on display and did a flight demo with it. Pretty cool. I'll post some pictures tonight.

Too bad I lost a bunch of my pictures, the batteries died half way through rewinding the role of film and I opened the back only too see my film. I was not a happy camper!

I think it was a U-2R from what I can gather, any help on the model would be nice.

The Nationalist (Taiwan) had U-2s? I see the star or sun thing on the side.

Or is this a U-2 I remember seeming a picture of LRRP team at during the Vietnam War (with the map blacked out because they where not where they were)?

8 Sep 1956 U-2A #6691 delivered(was flown by Taiwan AF (ROCAF), shot down near Peking, China by SA-2)

9 September 1962 A Chinese Nationalist U-2C was shot down over Mainland China.
1 November 1963 A Chinese Nationalist U-2C was shot down over Mainland China.
7 July 1964 A Chinese Nationalist U-2C was shot down over Mainland China.
10 January 1965 A Chinese Nationalist U-2C was shot down over Mainland China.
9 September 1967 An U-2C, operated by the ROC, was shot down over China.
March 1969 An U-2C, operated by the ROC, was shot down over China.

AFAIK the ROC lost all its U-2's due to hostile action.....

NASA operates a TR-2 that they've flown to Oshkosh a couple of times over the last few years.

It was a good idea, it just didn't work.

In early September I was at Laughlin (to fly the new T-6A "Texan II", but that's another story) and saw the U-2 there . It's near the front gate apinted in a gray scheme. It looked very well kept.
If anyone goes to Midland for a CAF event, Laughlin is about 3 hours south and worth the trip.
They also have a nice collection of USAF training planes on display (all outdoors).a well as a Douglas Invader.

In a nice bit of history being recognized, in the main pilot training building there is a very nice display honoring major Rudolph Anderson, the Laughlin U-2 pilot killed during the Cuban Missile Crisis. It includes photos, a recce camera and an example of the early type pressure suit worn by U-2 pilots back then.

As the U-2/TR-1's are based here in Northern Calif. at Beale AFB, they can usually be seen here at different shows. This picture is from the EAA Golden West show back in June: http://www.norcalaahs.org/YCAu2.jpg I believe there was a flyover at merced also, but don't remember for sure on that one. They can also be seen off and on again at the Reno Air Races, Wings Over Wine Country, Moffett, etc................

NASA has had their ER-2 up here in Bangor twice in the last ten years doing the Atmospheric research thing over the Arctic/North Pole. I got to watch it take off the first time. When it was here last fall, got in the hanger and had a nice conversation with the head of maintenance. Unfortunately I had camara problems and the pics were all to dark!

Speaking of Major Anderson... there's an elementary school named after him at Eilsen AFB in Alaska.
