The steps were installed outside on the left hand side of the fuselage aft of the cockpit and forward of the wing. They were added to the aircraft during their time as fire fighters. I've heard they are quite practical for getting on top of the aircraft, which is why I'm curious as to whether they will remain on your ship or not.
I'll look into the name of the artist who was doing alot of the Privateers in the Pacific. He did some really good looking stuff.
The book I have that really turned me on to the Privateer is, "Above an Angry Sea: United States B-24 Liberator and PB4Y-2 Privateer Operations in the Pacific (October 1944 to August 1945)" by Alan C.
