Dominica versus Republica Dominicana or Dominican Republic

Since we're being so "geographically correct", I must point out that there IS a Caribbean island nation named Dominica, and it's NOT the Republica Dominicana. Dominica is a lush, green, tropical island of volcanic origin. Their two biggest exports are bananas and pineapples. Nice, laid-back, tranquil place with lots of unspoiled nature. I've been there.

Cheers!

And that was precisely the point that I was trying to make. The two are not the same, but in most European aviation publications, you read "Dominica" when they are in fact referring to the Dominican Republic.

Saludos,

Tulio

I was quite excited to see the W33, or is it a W34?

Regardless, it looks like it's preserved quite well. That's a rare bird if my brain serves me correctly.

Thanks for posting those pictures. They are fantastic and give a good glimpse at warbirds in a place I've never been. Then again, I haven't been to a lot of places.

Cheers,

David

I wasn't sure either, so here's a link: http://www.geocities.com/hjunkers/ju_w33_m7a.htm

It's a version of it called the BA-400.

The BA-400 was a version of the Howard 500.
After the merger of Howard Aero and Alamo Aviation one Super Ventura was converted as the Business Air Craft Company BA-400.
Originally serial # 237-5599 it was converted to a Howard Super Ventura in the mid 1950s.
It's been in Colombia since the early 1990s.

I wonder what the plan was for the airplane in the early 1990's? Large cargo area, fast, expendable, I'm sure it was for museum duties seeing the rich aviation heritage of the area.

It was originally sold to an owner in in Venezuela and eventually became involved in drug smuggling (surprised ? Uh, yeah, right).
It was taken over by the Government of Colombia and stored at Santa Maria-Simon Bolivar Airport by Febuary of 1990.
By November 1992 it had been moved to Bogota where it put in storage again.
