So thursday before last we were down by centenial airport and along with the Adams planes fly'n around was a 51 with yellow tips is that a local bird and a question for the locals, Any preferance of airports around Denver? Might be mak'n a move.

Also whoever did the 4 plane p-51 flyby over Peterson made my day (I just received a "nonfunctonal headlight ticket" in the Springs. If your a local you might know what I mean)

Thanks

The P-51 was Crusader, owned by Joe Thibodeau, who took home 1st place in the Silver Unlimited race at Reno flying his other trusty steed, Race 26, also known as "Sea Hawk", a Hawker Fury.

Tony
Just saw Joe T's P-51 today.

If you are looking at airports, KAPA has more traffic than most, and is easy to get to.

Dick Jones did sell his T-6, believe it went to Washington ? As for airports near Denver, APA in south Denver has Joe's P-51, ex Jay Cullum, and Fury. There are some T-6s Jack Cronin, Stearman, etc. At BJC in northwest Denver are a couple of jets T-33, Venom etc. Both airports have restaurants that overlook the runway. The problem with both is that they are very busy tower controlled fields withe lots of business jets and not always that receptive to prop planes or warbirds. It is too noisy to stand on the ramp and talk airplanes, and security is restrictive. One of the new controllers at BJC is reputed to be from New York and is generally unfriendly. Two area airports I prefer are Boulder about 20 miles north west and Longmont another 15 miles up. Both are friendly, uncontrolled fields in a beautiful setting at the base of the Rocky Mts. Boulder also has a glider operation and a soaring club. Both have flight schools and parachute operations, and very few jets. They actually make aviation fun and relaxing.

Bill,
Thanks for the info on the T-6.

Image FNL (5016 ft) (Loveland)is great! But it is a bit of a drive from Denver.

Image APA (5885 ft )(Centenial) Lots of traffic, good for warbird spotting... Security is somewhat restrictive.

Image FTG (5512 ft )(Wakins...) A long drive, but a great place to view warbirds, but I don't know how many are maintained or fly in and out of there
(except at events).

ImageImage BJC (5673 ft )(Broomfield) Nice view of the mountains. I haven't had a bad experience with the staff.

Image BDU (5288 ft) (Boulder) Like Bill said, This place is the best!!!!! (for viewing... photos... and I have been told... flying.)

Sad to hear Dick has sold his T-6....truly the end of an era...

Our photos we sold to the Clation hotel (now the Holiday Inn) decorate the bar at the Holiday Inn near the base of the tower at Centennial Airport....shot over our 16 years of working with 'the boys'....great memories.

Mark
