I'm thinking about getting a Mustang ride for my dad this X-mas. Ever since he took me to my first air show, he would enter us in the raffle and comment that someday he'd like to go for a ride. I always planed to give him my ticket if I won. When I did get my ride, I would have given it to him in a second if I could have. I know he'll never buy a ride for himself. Unfortunately the cost of such an experience is going up at such a tremendous rate that I'm forced to take the advice that I usually give to others. "Get it now. It will only cost more later."

Who can I contact near San Jose, CA, about a ride for my dad?

Unfortunately I don't live in that area anymore. I will however be there for the holidays. I know there are a few Mustangs in Hollister, and I do know some of the people down there. I do not however have any contact information.

Any ideas or leads would be appreciated.
I owe him.

Thanks,

Ellsworth Getchell in San Jose has a Sea Fury, lots of experience and a real character. For P-51 try Dan Vance near Hollister, maybe Sebastopol. Also the CAF at Camarillo or anybody at Planes of Fame Chino, or Dan Martin, not sure which town.

Dan Martin is in Hollister and gives rides.
Naturally I cannot find his contact info this five minutes. I will keep looking and if I come across it I will send you a PM.

My first Mustang ride was with Dan Martin; I can vouch for his pilot ability. I have not flown with Getch, but in formation with him. He is retired airlines. Dan Vance is current airlines, I have not flown with him, but many times with his Dad. Dan grew up around planes and warbirds. Get one of these guys who have proven themselves if you can. You might see if any fighter has a stick in the rear to add that experience. If a fighter is too expensive, likely $1000 for a hop, perhaps $2000 longer, consider a seat in a B-17 or B-25, etc. Don't wait to contact the pilot, some might be putting their planes in for winter service by Christmas. Try to go on a cool morning, a Mustang is very hot, also it is likely smoother.

Thanks,

I know Ellsworth, he offered to fly my dad about two years ago in Straw Boss (I think). It just didn't really work out at the time. Yes, Getch is a real character. I have also run into Dan Martin a few times over the years. I would be very happy to have my father fly with him.

I guess what I really need is contact information.

I’ll get you Dan Vance’s email tomorrow if you would like. He flies out of Santa Rosa.

Feel free to PM me, or post here.

I've gotten my Mustang ride, now he gets his. After all it's kind of his fault.

Thanks for the help.
