Lancaster FM212 to make her Last Landing in 2005

Tue Dec 07, 2004 10:25 am

Hello Everyone,
It gives me great pleasure to pass along the news that Windsor City Council, at their meeting of Dec. 6th/04, decided that Lancaster FM212 is to come down off the pedestal in 2005, to be ultimately placed indoors for preservation and public display.
Now we move on to the next phase... the next several weeks and months will be busy searching for a suitable temporary indoor storage area for the Lanc (until a museum is built), making preparations to move it, and installing replicas of a Spitfire and Hurricane aircraft to take the place of the Lancaster in Jackson Park. As for temporary storage locations, we do have several options in mind that are both on and off the airport, and we are carefully exploring each one. Fundraising has already started, and the local citizenry are responding positively to this endeavour.
When a date is set for removing the Lancaster from the pedestal, I will let everyone know well in advance, it would be great if those who are able to make it can come to witness FM212 make her final landing.

Sounds great Peter..I just hope they find a suitable home for her...

I also hope that the Toronto Aerospace's FM104 gets some help..that project seems alittle under supported at times...
