Space Shuttle launch

Tue Oct 23, 2007 1:51 pm

Never get tired of seeing Space Shuttle launches.
Crowds starting to get larger again as end of Shuttle program nears.
You can question the need of the Space Program if you must, but witnessing
a launch is something you'll never forget.

Over the Cape, STS 120 Discovery launches 11:38:19 EST today.
A full 2 minutes after seeing ignition a long deafening roar finally reached
our location on the Banana River.

God Speed Discovery.

Nice Bill!
thanks for posting them.
Besides warbirds, I'm a real space nut.

I'd love to see a launch. That would be very cool.

If the day comes when the space missions end at least we’ll have Steroid… I mean athletes for our youth to look up to as great Men and Women to try and emulate.

Anyway.. great shots Bill.

It still is exciting for me too! I watch the speed and time and am floored by it, 60 seconds to go from 0 to 1,000 mph. Zero to orbital speed of 17,000+ in 9 1/2 minutes!!!!! I watched it fly over along with the ISS the last three evenings. Check out the satellite tracking page on the NASA web site for viewing times.

I was to see one in 2001, but they scrubbed it due to a Hurricane coming in. I was totally bummed. I still would love to see one!

I finally got to see one on my 3rd attempt.
We were at a similar beach as your pictures, but the wind was blowing towards the pad and the sound was muffled a bit.
The second was supposed to be at 4am but a small plane wandered into the airspace and they lost track of time while chasing it down and missed the window by 6 seconds. My son was around 8 and slept a little bit that night, I couldnt. We did the Magic Kingdom the next day and I was to pooped to go for another night on the beach.
