Sherman Tank update

Sun Oct 21, 2007 8:03 pm

Well...after several long months, and a lot of money, hard work, cuts, bruises, swearing...............................etc....

The engine is back in the Sherman at POF!

We should pre-oil and fire it up next weekend. I'll have pictures up on the myspace (http://www.myspace.com/wwii_restorations) and photobucket (http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z288/2ndarmored/) later today.

Of course, I have to put in my shameless plug and remind folks that we still appreciate all donations made to the museum for use on the tank. thanks to all those who donated!

The tank ran yesterday. There are two video clips up on photobucket that show the first successful startup and the first time it moved.

Is that oil on the startup or dust from the Santa Anas being kicked up by the fan?

Still need to drop by to see your project. Was busy cleaning out the hangar on Saturday. Literally buckets 'o dirt! :x

it was a little smoke and a lot of dust and ash.

we spent most of Sat cleaning up the hangars at the museum and Sunday cleaning up our hangar. We're not going to be there the next two weekends, but will be back at the hangar on the 18th.

Cindy,

When you are fully operational we ought to arrange a Sherman tank "drive in".

Since the CFM tank is registered for use on the highway, I think it best if we meet at your place, although I estimate that at 1 mile to the gallon, and a top speed of 25 mph, it should only take me a couple of weeks to get to POF from Addison, and a second mortgage on my house should take care of the fuel bill.

What kind of gas do you use in an old beast like this?

I love it! Nothing like a huge cloud of smoke dirt and trash kicked up by an old engine brought back to life!
