Grumman J2F-2 Duck

Well...I gots one more thing to do with it then I can call it finished.(wink)

Kit: Glencoe Models
Scale: 1/48
Type: Grumman J2F-2 Duck
History: This J2F-2 served with Utility Squadron 1 or VJ-1 and was based at Ford Island in Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941.

When I was searching for a kit to do a early version of the Grumman Duck I came across this model. Rather old and lack of detail it was pretty easy to put together. I didn't use the tires that came with the kit. Instead I used a pair of spare tires from my parts box that had more detail and looked a lot better then the kit supplied wheels.

I usually try to stay different then the norm as most models of the Duck are in the form of J2F-5's. An added bonus with this kit was it came with markings for a Pearl Harbor bird and since I was always fascinated with Pearl Harbor aircraft I knew I had to do it. Despite being a Utility squadron aircraft, a few utility aircraft did get airborne during the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Anyway...I hope you like the model. It will look good in my display case thats for sure.

Enjoy,

P.S. don't mind the white in some of the windows. I use glue to make the window ports. Once dried it will be clear.

Nice Duck Nathan 8)

Looks like a nice clean build. Much nicer than mine!

I built that same kit years ago. It is still hanging from my ceiling. (It was painted by hand...thats how long ago it was, hehe). It is one of the more interesting types to see.
