Of course it's nothing new - especially now with our aging fleet of aircraft. What happened to the C-141?

C-17 and C-130J replaced her...more cost effective

Off topic for a minute:

The Starlifter was retired because it had practically reached the end of it's service life. And no it wasn't replaced by the C-130J.

The new J models are few in number now and have fewer pallet positions. 6 pallet positions on the standard Hercs and 8 pallet positions on the stretched Hercs. Compared to the 141's 13 posistions. Not to mention the C-130s have a lower max take-off weight than the 141 did.

The Hercules fulfills a different Airlift requirement. Great plane but hardly a replacement for the Starlifter.

The Globemaster III is the 141 replacement but not be means of cost effectiviness. But by having capabilities that exceed those of the Starlifter's. The Globemaster is a heavily more versatile aircraft.

Don't panic.

I've been assured by people on this very website that the F-15 fleet is perfectly healthy and good enough to keep defending the US against any threats in the forseeable future (e.g. scrap the Raptor).

I'm certainly not panicing, Randy. After all, YOUR the one who's gonna go fly it !

Randy, last week there was a TV news report on civilain deaths from US bombing in Afganistan. Don't worry, your name was not mentioned. It did give a death toll, seems like 54? for a number of incidents. The last one which was detailed was of an incident where 9 civilains were killed when an F-15 or two dropped 2 1000 lb bombs on a village, (can't recall the name). The eye catching part was an interview with the Afgan president Karhzai ? in which he directly called for a cessation of U S airpower there because of the civilian deaths. My question is has the U S honored his request as far as bombing attacks on civilan targets? And cheerup, if they ground the 15s, I'm sure they'll provide you a replacement like an Osprey.

What does that have to do with the F-15 fleet? And who cares? This is a prime example as to why we need the F-22. It seems to stupid to stop trying to get better aircraft. No one else is.

Yes, as far as I know we're regularly targeting civilians. I mean, I'm not over there anymore so I can't participate in the civilian killing blood orgy occurring currently...but I'd have to guess that the US military is up to the "business as usual" of killing babies.

That's our business, you know. We're a bunch of bloodlust-crazed maniacs who are out to blast anything that moves. It's all about the thrill of the kill.

I think I read somewhere they were found with ak-47 rifles trying to ambush a military convoy.

Look here - NOT even funny - If I were Randy you'd have gotten a scathing PM, fortunately he is the calmer head. In case you have not noticed, "war" does not really care who gets in the way - everyone is fair game to the beast. Our troops (in the air and ground) are doing the best they can in a tough situation.

I apologise if I am flying off the handle but even the jest of, "don't worry your name was not mentioned" raises my hackles. It is terribly unfortunate that civilians get caught in the middle. But that is the nature of this war - what kind of things go through the soldiers mind? Ask my brother about how long to wait and how many American lives to risk while you decide if the car sitting in the dark in full of Iraqi kids "necking" or a waiting for a patrol to get close enough. . . .
