Ladies and Gentlemen:

I've heard there are several aircraft in Dummer Lake in Germany, icluding a P-51B. However, haven't read anything about anyone recovering any. Does anybody have any info?

Thanks,

Chris

The 51B I always think of is the one Alan Bunte of the 4th FG ditched in the lake south of Potsdam after hitting powerlines and being on fire in March of 44. Since he got out of the cockpit and survived, I figure it wasn't completely destroyed. A wartime 4th FG P51B would really be something to see

That's on my list of birds I'd go after should I ever win the lottery :)

The lake in Potsdam is not that big at all...if it is the same one I saw. It is right near Sans Souci Palace...maybe there are more lakes around there...that is very intriguing!

I looked at the MACR for that one when I was at the National Archives looking for some other info. It didn't help narrow it down other then the south of Potsdam.

They'd been strafing airfields and he hit powerlines if I remember right. This was the same day Duane Beeson went down to flak as well.
