I have finally finished the Illinois section of the Locator. It was a long haul as there were many more aviation sites there than I expected. I now hand it over to the great WIX gods...

http://www.aerialvisuals.ca/Locator.php?Region=IL

If you are a Illinois aviation site expert please go to the page via the link above and look for the big red + signs on the right side and read the request for help messages. If you have any info to provide just click the red + and you will be taken to a form where many of the fields will already be filled out but you can also provide corrections. I will also include the "need help" entries below (big list). The goal of this exercise is to…

#1: Make as many of the map links as accurate as possible. In other words the map link accuracy indicators should all be in the green.
#2: Improve the data for all locations.

Exact locations are preferred (but not necessary). If you know the exact location but don’t know how to get the coordinates you can get those from two sources. Source #1 id Google Earth…

http://www.aerialvisuals.ca/Locator_Map ... oogleEarth

Source #2 is Google Maps…

http://www.aerialvisuals.ca/Locator_Map ... GoogleMaps

I am looking forward to any assistance you may be able to provide.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

EDIT: The "Need Help" list has been moved to the latest posting.

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

This is the Huey that is at Lansing Airport, It was on a post at the northwest corner of the field, looks like the took it down to repaint it. As far as I know this is the only helicopter in the area on display.
I will try to get some better shots next time i go out that way.

Aaaahhhh...... I believe that. AH-1s and UH-1s are often confused in location and survivor lists. So it is a UH-1 at the airport. So noted. I have dropped the two Lansing entries from the "Need Help" list, and after taking a much closer look I was able to spot the location of where the UH-1 was (and possibly is) to be disaplayed.

Thanks for your help!

Mike

I had just figured that one out myself. I was trying to sneak in here to remove it from the list when... Dooohhhh!!!! Someone had already pointed out my gaff!

Thanks for the help. :D

I can't use them at this time. I am hoping to create a Photo Log so yourself and others may chip in with their photos. That is likely to take a year to accomplish in my spare time. I am sure Scott would like them for the registry though.

#31. RFA doesn't have much activity but I think they do pitch a shed at Oshkosh every year. I don't think they have any planes at Joliet.

#32. An A-4 was sitting outside in the weeds and was not hangared when I was there some years ago (maybe 10?).

I did see that. Thanks again. I have been making good use of the list, but for someone I dropped the ball with that address for the Legion. Thanks for reposting it.

Mind if I quote you in the Location Log? Others may find that info useful. Or if you don't mind click the megaphone icon for that location.

I heard the A-4 had moved on, but they had another cockpit section they were working on. I don't know how old that info is. I leave the location entry in the database for now.

Thanks all!

Mike

Their trailer and hanger are in the SW corner of the airport
property, approximately here:

Depending on the satellite photo date, you may see some of
their aircraft here (although they all have been moved to
the above location):

There is a P-80 at Pinkneyville Fair Grounds. I saw this airplane in it's fenced inclosure 2 yrs ago.

#41 - Should be South Pekin
#53 - Yes (as of August '06), UH-1H 67-17355. See this thread:

http://warbirdinformationexchange.org/p ... light=volo

It's under an outdoor enclosure. I'm going back to IL for Christmas and I'll see if it's still there.

Check. I have dropped the Norway entry from the list.

Check. Do any of the airframes remain at DuPage from before the move? If so are they in view?

That is a good possibility, I often find errors in my sources and I have been known to make a mistake or two. Do they have an AH-1? There also doesn’t appear to be a website for that one. I have estimated the location as 36 38 34.06 N 79 22 55.75 W.

Thanks for the confirmation it is there. Can you help describe where the fairgrounds are?

BTW Andy Marden’s book “US Military Out of Service” indicates it is T-33A 52-9663.

Thanks for all of the contributions. The "Need Help" list is still long, so I am hoping for more tips. Don't make me beg! I'll do it!

I am about to upload the data file. The Locator may be offline for a little while.
