I'm a bit lost here too---It may be a bit "uncomfortable" but since there is one guy here who seems to know the identity of the person who's got this thing, why don't he and the cockpits owner communicate directly?? Don't you guys already have the knowledge between the 2 of you to sort this thing out before it gets really bufugly????

Sparrow, I sent you a PM, thanks. And your suggestion is good, the go between should send the email address of the claimed owner, Pooner, to the man who has the cockpit. See if he will contact Pooner to resolve it,

But I don't get it.

If Pooner has a bill of sale and knows the who the guy is and where he lives then what the big hang up? Call the cops, report the stolen property and let them enforce the law.
Or am I missing something and it's not that simple?
Thanks

It is not that simple, Rob has a name, and nothing more, no address, no email address, no phone number. The only person that has that info is the host of the web site that has the pictures. What is strange, if the guy with the nose is honost, how come he asked the host of the site to fwd emails ? I think he knows there is something funny about the way he got the nose and is trying to hide his location. The address I went by was someone with the same name and in the same direction of travel as the report said it was last seen traveling. It was not the right address, as it was in a subdivision, and the pics show a isolated house in the desert.

another thing, IMO, the cops could care less about theft of any amount, try reporting your house getting broke into or you car stolen. They will not send a cop out to investigate, they want to take a report over the phone and nothing more. Unless it will get them new coverage, they don't seem to care.

Actually Matt, if you look at the first picture, you can see several other houses. It looks more like it's a house on the edge of a subdivision, so you may have had the right address.

I wouldn't give up so quickly on finding this gentleman.

the house I went by was the wrong one. there was about 10ft between houses, and maybe a 50ft back yard. Deft not the house in the pics.

Capflyer....there was something on the aircraft section that stated that the cockpit belonged to somebody....As stated by Pooner on one of his posts in this thread...that there is a notice in the cockpit that states who the owner is....how to get in contact....with phone numbers ....I know this to be a fact, as I saw the notices in both the Douglas cockpit and the Harpoon cockpit the last time I was there around the 17th and 18th of Nov.

Ruud said that Dan got 2 days notice to remove the cockpit?

Is it me or does it seem as if there might have been some "Double Dealing" going on?

Ive read and studiee all this before commenting. Several excellent points were made. But what I'm wondering is if there may be a third party involved playing the guy who supposedly has the cockpit for a chump.
The big positive that I see here is how WIXers go out of their way to take care of each other.
Think I'll leave it at that, gang.

I believe that whoever took the cockpit section verywell could have been hoodwinked into taking it, believing that all was well...especially because of the situation that is going on there at Memorial between the landowners and the predominant Indian tribe...I feel for the tennants there because they have been cought in a powerplay squeeze that they have no control of....with the confusion that is rampant there, well , any sleeze could go in there and make a quick buck selling the aircraft there, or parts thereof....If the Brooklyn Bridge was there, well, it too could be in somebodys back yard by now!
Now names have been named, still intentions are unknown. If the party that removed the aircraft did it unknowingly, it seems that by now he would have found out about his error and tried to make amends...hopefully this has already happened by now....

Gary, as of 10 this morning, Robert has not heard from either the web host or the guy who has the nose section.

Hi, at least it appears that the guy who has your cockpit is not planning on scrapping it. My speculation is that he was duped by someone trying to make a quick buck (if so they probably removed your ownership signs). I can say from personal experience that good intentions can go astray. I was told one time by airport management to take aircraft and parts etc just to get it off the grounds of a closed museum and out the way for another all important parking lot. The stuff still belonged to the various US military branches !!! They were NOT amused when I called to double check before touching anything. Our museum still got the stuff but it could have been bad if we had acted first and not gone through channels.
I also know how it feels to have your stuff stolen. I recently had a storage container broken into with two generators and a complete tailhook taken.
Luckily we have good County Police here who care they really tried to find my stuff. They also said if the crooks thought they had gotten away clean they might try again. I installed a silent motion alarm just in case (my stuff is over a hill through woods from my house and about 300 feet from the highway). The very next week the alarm sounded about 9pm (well after dark). I grabbed a 12 gauge and caught two guys carrying my jet fighter radome almost at the road! The idiots thought it was metal instead of fiberglass. I got one on the ground but the other one ran. The police were called and responded quickly (the Alfa Hotel I had on the ground crying was real glad to see them too after looking at the wrong end of a double barrel 12 being held by a royally pissed victim ). The officers were all smiles when they hauled the dude off.
The next day I discovered they had also gotten into my NC-121K nose section and rooted around (nothing heavy/valuable to steal though). The guys are lucky I didn't catch them screwing with my baby, I might have lost my temper. :snipe:
The police found my tailhook at a scrap yard and had it returned but the generators are gone (I didn't have the serial numbers recorded, so no way to make a positive ID). Hope you get your cockpit back soon! :drink3:
Good luck!
Brian

The old trick here otherwise is to call a second time two minutes later, and tell the cops to not bother anymore, because you just shot the intruder! That will usually get their attention. :)

Maybe he did, in the form of that nasty phone call he received.

Cockpit found. Here in PHX. Safe and sound, and in a residential backyard.

I can't say much about it now, other than it is a VERY convoluted and sick deal, and the individual who is in possession of it isn't one of Satan's minions as I would have originally expected.

A few of you were dead on earlier in this post as to something fishy, speculating the person who had it thought he had saved a treasure from the scrapman. I was too PO'ed to really have explored this issue in my mind at the time after having been given incorrect information and sent down the wrong trail. A few of you on page one of the post read the tea leaves correctly and hit dead on what happened.

What I can say is the facts of the case thus far: cockpit was sold to this individual who thought he was doing the right thing, and appears to have paid a good amount of money for acquisition and moving it about.

He's "made right" by it by calling the GRPD and noting its location with them. He in turn "made right" by calling Wingspan Director Jeff Furnari and explaining the situation. And then he "made right" by calling some of the involved parties with apologies and an offer to do whatever I think needs to be done to correct the issue. He's not feeling too happy, either, with all of the attention focused his way. Or so I understand.

I've typed this carefully and with much editing, as there is still so much going on with this issue that'd make one's head spin like a Ham Standard prop on a runaway engine.

There's another individual who is in the middle of this right now that has some explaining to do and some people to talk with. I can't express my true feelings as they made cloud further investigation with law enforcement officials. And they've been updated accordingly.

This post is FAR from closed. I suspect it'll pan out with more ugly details here soon, and I'll share. A big tip of the glass to the WIX community, as ALL of you who have called or posted (well, with exception of that one crack-pot earlier in the week) have all helped to bring this to resolution. Quite literally, everyone helped and narrowed this down quickly. It's nice to be associated with a community that watches one another's backs, not only from my own back yard, to literally around the country. And the globe, too.

There's someone in the middle of this right now, I postulate, who is really, really, worried....

The case continues... don't go away. I greatly look forward to providing ya'll with the un-edited and raw version of what's gone down in the last 24... but I know know precisely where this all began. There's great comfort in that. Stay tuned.

- Pooner
