Yet another of the actual aircraft that my father flew during his RAF career that has become (or is going to be) a static display in a museum. That now makes 6 that I know of. (Well 5 actually, but Hendon scrapped "his" Beverley!)

Is the aircraft being prepped for the flight from Midland yet? I'd like to jump over there and get some photos.

The Shack will likely be put in the hangar either this weekend, or Monday. Some of the Shack's crew will be here Monday (Dec. 10) to start on the preparations for the ferry flight. It'll likely take 'em a week or two to get it ready, but I'll keep y'all posted.

Thanks for the info Gary. I'm sure Ryan will be at DM when it comes in to get some pics. If it's on the weekend, my buddy and I will be down there too. During the week though may be a little tough since I work for UPS and we're a wee bit busy this time of year.

I plan on being at PASM the day it arrives. Please keep me advised as to the date and time (if possible) of arrival at D-M.

Its a shame to see this interesting looking aircraft become static after the ferry flight. It didnt have a chance to be aquired by a museum up North?

Well, Mr. McHenry is now in the hangar being prepped for it's final flight. Here are a few shots from today......

Kind of ominous looking as it's coming in the hangar, huh?

Starting to be disassembled for inspection......

And here's a Swordfish with one wing folded, just for good measure (we had to move it out of the way so that the Shack could fit inside). :) ....

NIce pics Gary. So if you were to guess, it might be closer to Christmas before it's ready to venture aloft? Originally Dec 16th was mentioned as a possible date but there's an awful lot of work to do.

I'm not Gary but as of this morning we're still planning on Sunday. Scheduled arrival is 2 PM Arizona time. As far as I know no depressing phone calls or emails arrived today so the plan seems to be progressing to schedule. We also hope for a couple of passes over the museum before it lands also a landing from the South will give a really nice view from the museum parking lot.

As of last night, the crew seemed upbeat and said they were making good progress. They are going to start preoiling the engines today, which in itself is a huge chore. I suspect they'll be ready to run the engines either late today or tomorrow, but that's just a guess on my part. As of yesterday, they are still planning on leaving here on Sunday.

Thanks Gary. Has anyone in Tuscon or at Pima contacted the PR department at Davis-Monthan to see if there will be a way for any of the general public to access the base to be there when it arrives?

Chris,

We have talked to the Air Force. There will be NO public access to the base. Anyone who wants to see the plane's arrival is welcome to come to the museum's parking lot. Hopefully the wind will cooperate for a landing from the south. We will be towing the plane to the museum immediately following the landing so visitors will be able to see it up close at that point.
