Who's Coming To Dinner

I was watching the last debate and the idea came to mind; If one was having a dinner party and wanted an interestng guest from these folks, who would you pick? Not necessarily who you'd vote for. It would be kind of boring if you only had some sycophant that already agreed with all your views/prejudices. Not just someone to give a speech, but someone you'd want to have a real personal conversation with. Who is interesting? I think you could rule out about half of them, and I'd give the top choices to Sen.Mcain and Sen.Clinton. Him for his experiences in Vietnam, her for her intelligence. And relax Scott, this is only about politicians, not politics as such.

Ryan, I think that is an excellent choice, I've aways been interested in people that are a littlle larger than their surroundings.

I would have to agree with Sen. John McCain . I saw an interview with him on Jay Leno, and he was very funny.

Not because he is running here, but he is funny and very interesting. Not the standard dull person. Very smart... and it sounds like he also knows the average guy.

Who ever would have thought of a chess master as the life of the party? I agree, if you could have anyone Bill Maher would be a load. On the real crazy side I think Robin Williams; I saw him once make Johnny Carson laugh so hard he could not breathe. And Richard Pryor if he was still alive, with his skit about dope talking to him every time he tried to walk by the stash. Anyone remember Geoffrey Cambridge?,"Christmas is for white people, ain't no Black kids can believe in Santa Claus. My little boy is only 8 years old, but he knows ain't no white man coming in our neighborhood in the middle of the night." Of anybody Dr. King and Sir Winston would be pretty high. But I digress, I really meant to select from among the current pres. candidates.

I think I remember seeing Sen Obama and his wife on 60 Minutes (?). He seems very personable, deep-thinking and an all-around nice guy. I also like Ron Paul for his sincere (if unpopular) responses. Would love to sit and talk over the dinner table with Hillary! I would love to ask her face-to-face what her true motivation was to stay with Bill after he admitted his transgressions with Monica. I suppose she would say that she is a "stand by your man" type of woman, but I believe she did it for her own political future. I liked Bill then for the job he did as President and still would love to sit and drink a beer with him! I bet he could tell some good stories :twisted:

Darrell, Hillary pretty much answered that in an interview. The overriding concern was her daughter, I have never heard anyone say she is not a good Mother, but she did say Bill was the most interesting man she'd met and they shared a lot of common ideas.
For me, Bill Clinton would not be a top choice, I think a conversation with him would be sort of one sided. Others who have met him say he is charismatic. Our economy sure did well under him and the budget was balanced.
Ron Paul is a trip, he is not only anti-war he is anti IRS and most every govt program. He's been married 50 years, Pres Clinton could have used his advice.

Roger your version is a little different than what I was asking. I posed which person would be the most interesting guest at dinner, not which had your political stance.
Anyway, it did take the poll you proposed and got Gov Richardson for me. Not exact,but what was accurate was Hunter came in last for me.
Thanks for your ideas, guess most others did not find it interesting enough to respond.

actually been thinking about this one. I would like to hear Newt Grinch...I mean Gingritch, he'd be a hoot and I have some questions about those awful books he wrote.

I'd also LIke Bill Clinton. He's a lech, yes. But what a fascinating mind, who also has some insight into things I went through.

I wouldn't invite the current administration types in. I would have trouble sitting at the same table without getting riled up. But George H. I might like to talk to. He has a heck of a long history noot just in politics but the intelligence community.

The three of them would make a heck of a diunner party. Speciallly if you could get Bill Mahrer and John Stweart and Steve COlbert at the table. Blood might actually flow.

edit: I'd LOVE to have Edwin Edwards to share gumbo with. He's the real deal! Almost as interesting as the Kingfish, Hey Long.
