Hey Lady O2 Pilot -
I've got a line on some original T-28A rocket mounts - where to you get 2.75" rockets around here?

You never asked me about rockets Russ. No problem. Do you want inert or live ordanance? (Awaiting call from ATF) We can probably fix you up. Do you need rockets to go with the Ma Duece pods or in leau of?

OK, Ober, we're looking for at least two inert AIM-9s. Can you fix us up ?

Funny how a post gets sidetracted ... lololol, I'm not complaining though, I will take the credit for rockets being attached to a T-28. Just make sure you fire them at something or someone who deserves to be .... FLAMED!!!! .... lololol

The OEM T-28A armament kit from NAA works with the plane having one hard point under each wing. The kit includes:
2 bomb racks
2 rocket adaptors for 3 2.75" rockets under each wing (total 6)
2 M-2 50 caliber underwing machine gun pods (one gun per pod)
Armament panel + harness + sight mount

The sight was a GFE N-9-1 like on early Mustangs.

Some A model planes were also able to carry the dual 30 caliber pods with two guns per pod under each wing.

The guy says he has two kits left, in the original NAA boxes, NOS. Pretty cool.

Any candidates for targets. Inert ain't no fun. I will check on the Aim-9s

Best way to get them is to build them. Check out the great pics of mine that Trey Carroll took. I built the bodies out of 5 in seamless Aluminum tube, turned the warheads down out of solid 6 inch billet, had the fins cut with a waterjet table and made the exhaust ports with a CNC machine. Very expensive way to do it, but very accurate.

BTW, Trey is quite a photographer.

I fly and maintain both. The T 28 gets my shoes dirty with exhaust.

One of the best Warbird rides you're gonna get.

Complaining about the engine stuff works anywhere. We could complain about wing AD's too. A chunked out engine is a chunked out engine. Like anything, treat it right, it'll treat you right.

We've been around this block a couple three times on WIX. I consider it a yearly tradition.

So I'll go ahead and list the Pro's, of the greatest airplane ever made.....again....for my slower WIX buddies...

1. Faster. Seeing the beautiful planet fron the sky...ehhh...works about fifteen minutes for me, or any normal human. Doing high speed breaks and checking out the cheerleading squad waitresses at Auburn is totally better, especially if you showed up in a totally b1chin ride. Sightseeing, ehhh, I get that in a 172...

2. Gods perfect view.... You ever told the hot tube top miniskirt girl at the airshow "You wanna go up and see what it's like inside?". Those steps up are heaven/super duper good deal.......

3. There is way enough room for all of the weed and guns you're gonna need for a good night in Vegas.

4. Believe it or not, I can fly it and land it, from the back seat.

5. Oil, beautiful beautiful oil.

I know, flying the T6, is supposed to prepare you for other things, but, most of us proles will never do "Bigger things". Not trying to burst anyones bubble, but, h3ll, I'm living in the same bubble, and me, and a lot of the cats here probably aint never gonna be a Mustang pilot. So you might as well enjoy life. I'll still keep trying, but a big engine T28 is probably as close as it gets....And it freakin ROCKS!

Flown them both and like them both, for different reasons. T6 is a challenge, always. T-28 is fun to fly, doesn't use much gas and is easy to maintain. It's all relative to what your used to.

I've had the opportunity to fly both and I really liked the T-28. It's big, powerful, and has been said the controls seem to be lighter and more refined than the T-6.

As far as preparing you for "Bigger Things ", yeah, I guess, if your moving up to a TBM or Skyraider ! I can't think of any single engine that's BIGGER !

One person listed a P-38 as a good nosewheel airplane. There are very few around, but if you have realistic chance to fly one or a B-25, B-29 etc. then a nosewheel trainer might be the thing to get time in. I think the 28 may have been designed as a step to those moving up to jets. There are many nosewheel jets, T-33, L-39, Fouga etc. that one may have a chance ot own and/or fly.
