What a beautiful airplane...I love the sleek lines of the pre-war look. As far as I know Red Bull will not go any further in adding their logo to the airplane besides those on the elevator balancers.

I did take a look at their website. Why don't you take another look, lol!

Only 2 aircraft of their fleet, have even remotely "military" markings. Those are the Corsair and the T-28. In fact, those are the only 2 aircraft that have United States Military Insignia on them. The vast majority of their aircraft have the corporate logo - the "Flying Bull" on them, even on the 2 quasi-military schemes. Except for those 2 aircraft, all of the rest of the paint schemes have been "civilianized".

Easy, don't get upset, I just made a point, they DO have military markings on their aircraft, maybe not all of them, but some, so what's your point? .... Geez!, I wasn't attacking you .... OK, I took another look ... now what? .... I see military markings ... So to re-state things, the original quote doesn't seem correct, who cares anyway, they can paint all their aircraft pink for all I care ....



BTW, their Corsair looks to have a Full military paint scheme on it, anyone disagree? ... It flew with the famous red bull squadron in Korea. But for the sake of not arguing with you Warbird1 .... YOU WIN!!!! ....

I'm not getting upset, I'm simply correcting wrong information, that's all. If you look at their website, only 2 of the 13 aircraft they fly have military markings. I think that supports my statement. Also, keep in mind, that some of the pictures they show there are of their aircraft shortly after they obtained them and before they got "civilianized" with official Red Bull paint schemes. Even those 2 quasi-military schemes on the Corsair and T-28 are not very accurate at all. So, I stand by my original assertion.

First ... what wrong information? ... second ... ah!! What???? ... lololol, like I said, never mind, you win!!! ....

Give it up. Be glad it was restored to the glorious condition it's in.

Yea, you're right, the Corsair is in full, accurate military paint. Everything from the color, the tail code, the tail code's size and unit insignia are all highly accurate. Yes, the famous red bull squadron in Korea, wow, what a unit! They managed to shoot down a lot of Japanese aircraft there. You know that unit doesn't need any more recognition, after all, everybody knows a lot about the famous red bull squadron in Korea.

I retract my previous statement- that the Corsair is in quasi-military paint scheme.

There's a very famous line, from a very famous movie ... that move was called "From Dusk Till Dawn" .... starring some of our very best actors of all time, George Clooney, Harvey Keitel and Cheech Marin ... and if memory recalls, I think Cheech Marin was nominated for best supporting actor in this classic. ... Anyway at one point in the movie, Harvey Keitel says to George Clooney .... "Are you that stupid, that you can't even tell when you've won?" ... well the last time I was moved by such beautifully written diolog, was when Bluto spoke those patriotic and emotionally moving words in "Animal House" .... Ahh! ... what was it again? ... something about when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? ... well, no matter, You've won, I lost .... I've been spending so much time on this crazy WIX site that every airplane I see these days on the internet seem to have dark sea blue and Navy markings on them .... See, all those years when I was a kid building plastic models, I was told not to sniff that glue too long .....

It's interesting to me that during the entire time this airplane has been undergoing it's restoration, it seems that the overall paint scheme and details within it have been of the utmost interest to most folks. What I find fascinating, however, is the craftsmanship that was involved in getting this beast ready for flying again. Does anyone remember what the Ezell Aviation crew had to start with? It was a clunky ol' P-38 that had caught fire in flight and was put down in a field in Mississippi. And I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but I've worked on Lefty's airplanes before, so trust me, even IF this P-38 hadn't been wrecked in a field, there were surely plenty of other maintenance issues that would make one scratch his head in amazement.

So with that being said, take another close look at those pictures. Look at the cowlings and landing gear doors that were made from scratch, by hand, by Nelson and crew. And they're polished! No Bondo there, just incredible workmanship. The hydraulic systems were completely rebuilt and/or replaced. The electrical system was the same. This airplane, whether you like the paint scheme or not, is a phenominal example of a great restoration. I'm confident the folks at Red Bull know the history of this airplane and respect that, but it's their airplane now and I'm equally confident that it'll be around for many more years under their care. I think the last picture posted (with Ashley's back turned to the camera) says it best..."An icon...reborn."
