the airshows at Duxford did seem like they were a little closer to the ground than what we had seen in the US.

I did some GR1 missions a few years ago in Wales....now that was fun to the max! 500 ft or less to stay below the cloud decks and flying in the mtns to boot! ah the good ole days...

Actually I like the darts, the pubs and the blokes myself.

Especially, some young lady with that accent and all of her teeth. Man I miss hog call at Mildenhall.

The G-club is but a ghost of its former self...leveled & rebuilt as a "combined" club - coupled with the "closed base" since 9/11 and it's dreadful...

Sad. Used to get our "E"s to sneak us in to the G-club - back in the day...there was no place like it!

Ah, Mildenhall. Many great memories here as a kid, and still now infact. I live not too far away, and had grown up with you chaps flying around my home town of Holbeach.
I remember the mid 80-90's when you had
Bentwaters
Woodbridge
Alconbury
Upper Heyford
Lakenheath
Mildenhall

all flying arond in F-111's / A-10's / C-130's / C-5's / KC's / and just remember the SR-71, great fun for a youngster to watch!!!!!

Most of all was bank holiday weekend in May at Mildenhall, for it was AIR FETE weekend. Can still here it now coming through the gate...." HOT DOGS, BURGERS, BEST BUD ON THE BASE.......COME AND GET IT". How I miss Air Fete.

I've put in a few shots to stir your memories of little america.

Sadly, I don't think they've had an AIR FETE since 9/11...

Mildenhall isn't even the "Gateway to Europe" anymore - most of the transient traffic goes through Germany these days...

Now RIAT, that's some fun there! :D

Your right, Mildenhall these days is a ghost of it's past. Air Fete 2001 was the last show held their. With the security around the base now I can't see the show coming back.
