Hello Tim:

I was there in 2000, and it was there then, but it was on loan from the Smithsonian, I believe. I'm pretty sure it went to the new section they were opening up.

I was at Udvar/Hazy a year ago. There is a Kingfisher hanging from the ceiling there. Nice lookin ride. It had a plaque that said the floats were donated.

Thought that Kingfisher was from Battleship Cove in Fall River, MA on loan due to the fact that they didn't have indoor display space... now that it is hanging from the ceiling of U/H, I doubt they'll get it back anytime soon.

The Udvar-Hazy Kingfisher was originally assigned to the USS Indiana.

The Navy donated it to the NASM in 1960. It was loaned to the USS Masschusetts from 1968 until 1980, when it was returned to the Garber facility for a full restoration, which was completed in 1988.

Isn't that Kingfisher part of the garber collection.
Sure would like to get some picks of the front and rear cockpit.
To aid in our restoration.

Mick,

As this Kingfisher is in the NASM Udvaar Hazy Collection (located at Dulles Airport). It is most likely the same Kingfisher that you may have seen at NASM's Garber Restoration facility. However, I could be proven wrong by one of the many experts contributing to this site. New cockpit shots would be a bit difficult at the current time (at least for a civilian).

You could lower yourself down on a wire in the dark.
I saw it done on TV.

The Kingfisher at Udvar-Hazy was at the Garber facility.

Does anyone have the info on the Kingfisher on the USS North Carolina?

The Kingfisher at PalmSprings is the one hanging at Dullas now, or they happen to be painted the same

I've got info on surviving Kingfishers, but I'll have to dig it up. I think this one is an OS2U-3. Anybody know what Weeks' Kingfisher's Buno is?
