Rick,

I have not gone to Brazoria, but I had these two shots back from October 1990, taken at Ellington Field, during Wings Over Houston:

Mmmm. Been building a model of this actual aircraft. Nice kit, too, and it was interesting researching the differences of this airframe to standard. Mainly windows...

Thanks T!

Thanks, Tulio. I've got some that were taken when it was still being worked at Wolf Airpark in Manvel. That was before the second restoration that Bootenhoff's volunteer crew did. They rectified some pretty big oversights that the first one missed.

Along with the windows, JDK, Hughes also fitted bigger engines.

Thanks Rick. When I say I've 'been building' I, of course mean I started several years ago, and occasionally am reminded it's halfway there (when I got stalled on parts, like different wheels) by pics like this! :D I think I recall the engines being different (the exhaust arrangements aren't what they were built with, as it is 'now' post-resto) and I presumed the interior dictated the window arrangement?

Any more details on the modern story of this beast? What's the current status?

I for one would love to see any more photos and appreciate any high res ones for personal use... (hint...)

Cheers

I have 80+ photos taken 1990, 1991 during the restoration including interior shots. I have not scanned them yet. JDK what type of photos are you looking for?

Here's another one... well, a bit of one at least!

Lovely to see that such a beast is still flying.

Richard

If I can be so bold. Mr Word, I am a flyingboat nut and would be interested in photos of the interior after restoration ie cabin, cockpit, rear access fuselage door.

Thank you

JDK,

I can send you two high-res photos, but probably you would want the 80+ pix offered?

Please let me know.

Wish our museum could get a hand on that S-43 hull. She belongs back home!!!! Maybe we could even try building all new wings and surfaces for a nice static display.

Still dreaming

Aside from being a bit wacko, good old Howard sure had awesome taste in airplanes.

Oh, about 80+ type. :D I'd be delighted to see what you have and obtain copies. I've PMed Tulio with a request also, thanks to both folks offering.

JDK,
I will start scanning the photos and post a few low res so you can see what I have. Normally I scan at 200dpi and post at 72dpi. It will take a little while to do this because of current limited time at the computer. I plan on putting the Hughes' S-43 photos and the Pima S-43 photos on a cd for myself. PM me and we can talk about it.

Hi Bill,
That's very generous. I'm sure I'm not alone in appreciating seeing a selection on WIX, either.

PM on it's way.

I have scanned some of the pix of the Hughes S-43H. The first 5 were at Wolf Airpark, Manvel, TX in 190. The next 4 were at La Porte, TX airport in 1991. I will be posting some mort taken a La Porte in December 1990 showing detail both exterior and interior
