I am in Seattle this week for work. It is going to be a busy week, so I went straight to the Museum of Flight from the airport. Fw-190 is displayed in the original museum with all that natural lighting. It looks great!

The new wing is fantastically arranged, and has many informative displays describing the aircraft and the time period. However, the natural lighting is sadly absent... very very very absent. Both the main floor WWII and 2nd floor WWI walls and ceiling are all painted flat black and there are no windows. Spot lighting is used well, but the aircraft are not displayed with photography in mind. Oh well... the tripod prooved its value today. Hopefully the shots will turn out well.

One of the docents asked me if I was taking the pictures for profit. I might have looked like a professional with my 25 year old camera. I guess I can fool anyone. I didn't want to ask the reason he asked, but does anyone here have any ideas.

Anyway... I don't know what my schedule will be like for the rest of the week, but I am hoping to get up to Paine field for the tour of the
restoration shops and out the 262 project again. If I am real unluckly (read lucky) and have to work into next week here I am hoping to get up to the Vulcan Heritage on the weekend, but that is long shot.

Can someone remind me where Boeing Bee is again?

Hi Mike, thanks for the report from the museum! It sounds like the lighting problem is similar to the new building at the USAF Museum. Is this a new trend? Boeing Bee and the museum's B-29 are in storage in one of Boeing's hangars and according to the museum's website can not be viewed. Have fun out there.

Hey Mike,

Boeing Bee is at Boeing Field in the old Boeing Plant, sitting at the same spot as the famous photos of 5 Grand. As far as I know she is off limits to the general public. The B-29 is there as well, still undergoing restoration. FHC is up at Arlington airport and is well worth the drive. We were given a tour of the museum and restoration area. We were asked not to publish any photos taken of the facility. Too bad too because I shot around 100 pictures. It is well worth a visit. The B-17 is progressing magnificently, the workmanship is incredible. The time and "secrecy" that has been expended on this collection is well worth the outcome. A video presentation documenting the collection is given at the entrance. From there you enter the main hangar and the collection is very well presented and the gallery is well lit. Mechanics were working on the Mustang and Spit...this is a flying collection and is treated as such. Lots of good things going on in Seattle!
