This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Below is my photo list for Wings Over Houston 1987. You can see several aircraft that longer exist, A-20, B-26, PV-2 & BT-13 Val. In those days the military participation was greater than most current shows. I will post photos of any particular aircraft if requested. As you can see by the number present I cannot post them all here.

Bill, for WOH 87 and 88, I wrote down every serial number I could find, plus the airplane's characteristics. I have no idea where those files are, but I am sure I have them, somewhere : )

Not to shabby a line up of warbirds. Possibly the largest gathering that I have ever been in.(Never been to Osh.) Hate to pay the fuel bill at todays prices. Back when WOH was fun.

Are these in an album on photobucket, or other photo share website that you could link us to?
Also, I'd like to see #91 (although you might have to post it in the aerobatic section) Thanks!

HEY BILL!!

WOOT!
THANKS!

The first photo is one of Tora's Vals. I need an id on this one.
The next 3 are of the one requested (#91) Pitts "Double Take" He takes off normal, then lands upside down, gets out of cockpit, gets back in and then takes off again finally landing normal again.
I do not have a web site and I haven't posted all of these on Photobucket. I can post on Photobucket for requests like above.

Bill, that Val replica was owned by Tom Kelley, Conroe, TX,at the time of the photo. It was late sold to Charles Angel, Kingwood, TX, at which time Mr Angel re-painted it to the light gray scheme. He added a three bladed prop, among other improvements.
Sadly, this was one of the aircraft destroyed in the June 1994 hangar fire in Conroe, TX. I don't remembe the tail number, as there has been a fair amount of brain cells destroyed since then. I believe that it was N65???, or close to that?
Dave

Thanks Dave,
I looked up the only Val conversion with N65 and it was N65837 and the owner was Charles Angel of Kingwood. This aircraft is still registered. It is BT-13A c/n 2819.

Your #58 was actually the CAF A6M2 Zero N58245. It is now on static display on the museum on Ford Island. Just an FYI.

Please do post the Spitfire. I am puzzled by the reference to MH434.

Hi Peter--
Spitfire MK297 spent its final days

in Hangar #3 at Mt.Hope, having dinged its prop taxiing during the 1990 Hamilton airshow; until stripping in early 1993 for an intended refinish in late-war livery, it was still wearing its very basic 1940-style finish from the Texas shoot for "Piece Of Cake", and I well remember that, for whatever reason, hand-lettered near the NX9BL registration was "MH434" and the Belgian AF serial. In fact that struck me as so odd at the time that I took a closeup photo of those markings.
"Piece Of Cake", though, was filmed around 1989; that paintjob would not yet have been applied in '87. In its previous (Douglas Bader) livery, did MK297 also wear some sort of duplicate ID for MH434? And...why?

Hello Steve,
Fascinating.
I wonder if this was for 'continuity' reasons for the filming of PoC.
Any chance of posting your close up image?

I shot this photo at WOH 87, I believe.

Bill, I commend your scrupulous note-taking. Your long list may provide some more info for me id'ing some a/c I photographed at the CAF Aggie Wing Airshow in April of '88. I also have some pix that came to me fourth hand from an earlier show at the same place. I may get back to you on those.
thanks again for sharing,
