B-24 wreck in Alaska

20 years ago I lived in Fairbanks, AK. On a Tanana river sandbar just south of Fairbanks sat a VERY clean (from the air) B-24. It would have been accessible only by foot. Does anyone know the fate of this bird?

My first thought was the LB-30 that was up there. I think it moved to CO? I could not find any pictures of it (I wonder if I checked the registry 
)

It probably was the LB-30 (AL 557) that now is in Ft. Collins. It was reasonably intact for a long time. I have some pictures taken of the LB-30 around 1960 shortly after the plane was wrecked and abandoned.
The LB-30 is now owned by Don Whittington of World Jet and has been in Ft. Collins since the mid-90s. I heard that he was looking to sell the LB-30, but the asking price, around $200,000, was high for a bird that is going to need a lot of work to even be on static display, let alone restored to flight worthy condition.

THE LB-30 HAD BEEN SITTING OFF THE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY ON WHICH IT WAS WRECKED FOR MANY YEARS ,THE A/C ON THE SAND BAR IS A B-25 EX TANKER TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT A/C

I believe you all are thinking of the "Sandbar Mitchell" which has been pretty much stripped out.

I've seen the Ft Collins LB-30 - good grief it is in SAD shape - the airframe is in about 3-4 pieces as I recall and really just almost a total write off. The seller did say at the time he would include a good Davis wing and a couple of engines for the asking price. I agree it would be a PILE of cash to get this even to a static point.
