Who is Scarlett Johansen and why would I want to meet her for a "brief visit"?

So how did the young girls from India and Sri Lanka afford their invitations to meet with her?

Maybe not you or me, but the whole point here is that this is a fund raising auction. The winning bidder, someone from the UK, paid US$40,100.00. ALL of the proceeds goes to Oxfam America (http://www.oxfamamerica.org/), a Boston-based international development and relief agency that helps people around the world.

Scarlett Johansson is a passionate and committed advocate and fundraiser and has been involved with Oxfam since 2005. In 2007 she traveled to Sri Lanka and India to meet young girls who have a chance to go to school against great prejudice and poverty, and she also met families affected by the Tsunami on the coastline of southern Sri Lanka.

I'm sorry, I just don't get this whole Hollywood worship thing. I did see "The Man Who Wasn't There" (which sucked by the way) but missed "Robot Chicken."

So how much cash did she donate to this charity, or does she just donate "a few moments" here and there?

I echo your sentiments exactly.

Neither do I guys, but I found this curious. If you ask me who's my favorite actress I would have to stop and think. If you asked what aircraft I love the most I would give you an answer in a few milliseconds. :)

Anyway I really don't know how much she donates, but she does travel a lot for these fund-raising causes. Besides that and as I said all the proceeds from the eBay auction goes to charity. In another context if I were famous and WIXers asked me to appear in some airshow to raise money for an aircraft restoration I would surely oblige! :)

Understood, perhaps this is the world's most worthwhile charity, but these "stars" are some of the most out of touch and ill-informed people on the planet. I think I would in fact recommend doing the polar opposite from what they suggest and we would all be better off!

Here is a good primer on the subject:

http://imdb.com/title/tt0372588/

http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/team_america/large.html

Quote:
Janeane Garofolo: As actors, it is our responsibility to read the newspapers, and then say what we read on television like it's our own opinion.

Quote:
Alec Baldwin: By following the rules of the Film Actor's Guild, the world can become a better place; that handles dangerous people with talk, and reasoning; that, is the FAG way. One day you'll all look at the world us actors created and say, "wow, good going, FAG. You really made the world a better place, didn'tcha, FAG?"

Quote:
Sean Penn: Last year I went to Iraq. Before Team America showed up, it was a happy place. They had flowery meadows and rainbow skies, and rivers made of chocolate, where the children danced and laughed and played with gumdrop smiles.
