Big snow in north Texas

Thu Mar 06, 2008 10:23 pm

It started snowing here about 1000 this morning and quit about 1600. We got about 8 inches at my house. I was unable to make it to work this afternoon as the roads were horrible. I got stuck about two miles from the house. Many cars in the ditches, jack-knifed semi-trailers, wrecks. Schools let out about 1330 and many businesses closed. A neighbor with a 4 X 4 pickup helped get my truck unstuck, he's lived here for 40+ years and has never seen it this bad. OK all you northerners have a laugh at us, but the snow will be gone by Sunday and temps back in the 60s.

I live in Arlington...we got a dusting of ice pellets, sleet, and snow.

Gee whiz...what is going on here?

Global warming!

I live about 8 miles south of Decatur. One guy I talked to said it took him 1 hour to drive 6 miles on Hwy. 114.

scraped 4 inches of top snow yesterday, from 1/2 inch thick ice crust today. my driveway is roughly 15 ft wide x 75 ft long. took me 3 hours to chip that ice sheet off.

Tom,

Your situation sounds like the "great ice storm" we had in Oklahoma at the beginning of the winter. I hate ice worse than snow, and snow is no friend.

You guys south of the Red take care of yourselves until the big melt occurs. And yes, we grew up in the snow belt and we do laugh at southerners driving in snow, but not when it's that deep and people can get hurt. Be careful!

Stop it, I'm coming down to Texas to be WARM!

Snow is mostly gone, roads are fine. All it took was 24 hours! :D

Here is a picture of Nine-O-Nine in Texarkana, AR on 3/7/08. The photo was taken by JimH and forwarded to me.

Who would have ever figured that it would snow that much in TX/AR in early March. I have put a call into Al Gore.

He's got some carbon credits to sell you.

Stuck last night between 11:00 PM and 09:30 today, on I-40 between Lonoke, AR and Memphis, TN.

Ice was probably a couple of inches thick on the pavement, and there were so many accidents! I have never seen so many trucks and cars on the sides of the road or on the median; overturned, jackknifed, crashed, twisted 18 wheelers.

And although weather was better in TN, there were still many cars off the road due to skidding.

Interestingly, East from Memphis and Westbound, I saw a lowboy hauling a M-47 / M-48 tank; it looked nice, well cared for, and what seemed to be a fresh coat of paint.

Saludos,

Tulio in KY

We're driving the hot rods (and bikes) down to Austin for the Lonestar Roundup on April 4-6. We're leaving Chicago on April 1st.
