"Tycoons" Fighter Jets show.

For those of you who saw this show recently on the National Geographic Channel, I was the guy flying the AH-1 Cobra Gunship. I must state for the record that I was told I was doing some kind of History show. I had no idea it was going to have a crazy title "Tycoons" and feature the person more than the Aircraft. The show in my opinion was Hokey but all the flying sceens were good esecially the EE Lightning. Tricked by Hollywood again! This is why I turned them down to play HH in the Aviator!

Question is, who were the people. I take it, the rich and famous from Hollywood.

It was a complete Airframe and came out surplus from Ft. Rucker in a trade with the Army Museum. Cobras built up from parts are not legal to fly. Those who have tried have had them confiscated by the DOD. Those are considered scrap and sold as such. This is a trainer version of which only 9 were ever built. There will never be any more than 9 of these flying in civil hands. The FAA will no longer certify them without original DAta plates and a Bill of Sale from the U.S. Government. They will be rare one day. Or perhaps they already are. They are one of the most amazing flying machines ever built. A true killer!

Sounds like you guys have stumbled on to the only way to make a P-51 visually appealing.
Just remember what the Colonel says: Round motor airplanes don't need no nekkid wimmins to look good!!

I've taken a good deal of abuse at the office for being a rich playboy jet owner. Especially the part during our formation segment when the announcer said, "These guys are Loaded"...give me a break. Still, I though everyone did a good job with the flying (with the notable exception of the poor MiG-15UTI student who was flying with Salganek; that bounce and go made my bones rattle just watching it).
Brian, if you'll send me a PM with your address I'll send you a DVD of the show. I know the folks at Pioneer Productions promised us all the raw footage, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

The film guys had these small "lipstick" cameras that they mounted in two of the jets, and we had backseaters who were holding small video cameras. One of our guys also had a small camera mounted looking straight ahead, over the nose, as the day before the film guys had forgotten to mount a camera looking ahead on Bob Lutz's L-39.
Our guy, Paul Wood, watched the footage they had shot of Bob doing his aileron and 4 point hesitation roll, then went out and recreated it. If you look at the segment on Bob you can tell it's actually Paul's plane, as we were doing section takeoffs, and Paul is stacked on his side of the runway. You can also see Brutsche and me climbing away in the first element. The magic of Hollywood.
Brian, we especially liked the young female producer from England. Brutsche gave her a Hopper t-shirt, which she happily changed into on the ramp. It's good to be a movie star.

When you get ahold of Steve, see if you can talk him into bringing his Sea Fury out to the Airshow in June! I also hear he may be interested in aquiring a TBM. Oh yea, I may be coming out to Olympia the first or second week of February so I don't think I'll make it to the Warbird Conference.
