following the discussion on the Swiss-ish ID quiz, here's a photo of a Swiss Bf-109E-3 J-345 with some nice artwork.....

the swiss seized a number of allied & axis aicraft that were shot up or had to divert to their nuetral country in an emergency. some they repaired & operated, others.... well you know the sad fate. it would be great to see some more pics like that!! did the swiss intern aircraft crews like the russians did before they got into the war with japan??

Towards the end of the war (late 1944) some airmen were "allowed" to escape through France. Great photo, I like the blood on the ground under the nose.

I thought it may be some kind of interesting Swiss flora peaking thru the snow...or expended

Fireworks, good idea but Swiss independance day (fête nationale) is on 1st august, will not match with all this snow... :wink:

This is not actually a captured Me-109. The Swiss actually bought about 90 Me-109E's before the war officially started in 1939. A couple of later mark '109's were acquired through internment during the war, and several were put together in Switzerland from parts. I believe one Swiss Me-109 still survives in a Swiss museum.

Just looks like some reddish colored mud to me guys. Its all over the tires and the the mechanics trousers too.

Ahh..yes Octo, I was reaching..but it weren't blood or hydraulic fluid! Swiss Christmas 'crackers..Swiss New Years,

Good point Fitz, but all the color-hue highlights are in the red spectrum...suggesting film process
of the period comes into play here. The tarp on the port wing ..the uniforms, the shadow of
the prop where it enters the prop-boss..are shades of red. :wink:
