Good news, although only temporary. A quick question. Why can't "Pink Lady" be registered in another country that doesn't have those archaic rules and just be "based" in France? Surely, there has to be some country in Europe or North Africa that is not subject to those assasine regulations? Cruise ships do it all the time to take advantage of cheaper taxes and laxer rules, so why can't airplanes?

The problem is that the members of the crew live all around Paris, therefore the aircraft can only remain based not far from Paris For a foreign registration, I do not know anything exactly but a law in France considers any Warbird as a weapon of war, which gives place to a request importation of the aircraft, can be a foreigner registration can go against this law...
maybe....

Just one thing, Here in France it is prohibited to cuts a weapon like M-16 or something other, it's prohibited, only the soldiers and the police officers have the right to have one

A law of president Sarkozy prohibed to have war guns.... and for the law.... B-17 is a War gun.... Spitfire is a Gun.... M-4 Sherman is a gun.... yes, it's crasy.... :roll:

That's horrible. It sounds like you guys are in a real "Catch 22" situation. I don't know anything about French law or politics, but here in the United States, when somebody is not receiving justice or is subject to an unfair interpretation of the law, we get Congressmen and Senators (politicians) involved. They have, in the past, got the U.S. Navy to overturn their assasinine rules about aircraft salvage. Lex Cralley, a.k.a. "Pirate Lex", Wix member here, got his Brewster Corsair because of Congressional involvement. Why can't the Pink Lady group start lobbying the French politicians to grant an exemption or exception to those assasinine French laws you have?

Cedric ~ excellent news that The Pink Lady has a sponsor for the 2008 season :D

Our cousins in the United States still enjoy the freedom to walk up an pay for a ride in a B-17 ( or B-24 or B-25 ).

Difficult then to appreciate the mountain of regulations that ensure this kind of thing will never happen in Europe. Even rides in a DC-3 will become a thing of the past after July 14th 2008 ~ unless they have a armoured cockpit door, weather radar, drop down oxygen masks, floor level emergency lighting, emergency escape chute .......... :roll:

No exception! like someone said in France: Dura Lex Sed Lex (The Law is Horrible, You must apply Law

In France we havn't some celebrities who like Warbirds, like Paul Allen, John Travolta or Tom Cruise, we have no celebrities who could talk about that with the President or Deputy....
Aviation is less known of the general public to you if you want to cross the country you take the plane out of necessity us in France we take the train.... (and our trains are faster than a Boeing!!! :wink: ) Furthermore there is not Lobby when I wanted to alert the world on the situation of the Pink Lady they told me to be therefore silent I am silent....

Right Now, if I would like to speak about warbirds, I go here to speak with American, English and Canadians enthusiasts
(Et aussi avec les amis du Quebec! :D )

For conclusion some French Warbirds Owners and some French enthusiasts are very.... special....

It's impossible to speak with a P-51 Mustang Owner.... here on the WIX you could speak with a CAF member... it's amazing for me!

The situaton in the UK is if you wish to operate an ex-military aircarft it must be UK registered if you wish to continue to fly it after a period of 28 days has elapsed. If a US registered aircraft comes over for an airshow such as Flying Legends then that is fine so long as its not an extended stay. Aircraft that have been restored in the US and registered there must be re-registered in the UK if they are imported and are to remain in the UK. The days of N registered permit (ex military) aircraft residing in the UK are sadly over.

This year could be a massive year for the european b17's as if all goes to plan the liberty belle will come over and hopefully there will be a 3 ship at one or more shows depending on how long its stays!! Now, there may be an event at duxford in july that might well be the favourite for that. The name escapes me...... :wink:

I have to go with Mike on this one. THe way governments are heading, we might not be able to get a ride in a B-17 here in the U.S. let alone overseas. That is why it is important that if you can spare the money, hook up with one of the groups and go flying. One day we might be sitting here saying I should have done that. I flew with EAA over Oshkosh in the B-17 and it was amazing. I want to buy rides in 909 due to it's history to my area, and the Collings B-24.

I fully endorse your comments Mustang Driver ~ support the bombers :drink3:

My first ride in a B-17 was a lifetimes dream come true ..... but each time I've want to do it again ~ I first have to ride something else across the Atlantic to get to the United States !

As this thread has shown, the freedom to fly is a precious thing that is gradually eroded by legislation, insurance and fuel costs...

If you can't afford to buy for a ride ~ go out and visit your local tour stop. A ground walk thru is much less expensive but it all helps.

Without our patronage, this golden age of aviation will come to an end long before it rightfully should.

Godspeed all those going out on tour this year !
