From what I have heard, it is possible to lower the fuselage in some B-17's but not others. I think I'll refrain from speculation as to the cause untill the investigation is complete.

This is exciting! I can't wait for the final results... Right now "Pilot Error" is running neck and neck with "Stupid Poll!" :D

Yes, an exceedingly stupid poll. The 'opinions' of armchair enthusiasts are little substitute for a rigorous accident investigation.

Hence the reason for including that choice. Perhaps you should vote in my exceedingly stupid poll more than once to voice your opinion more strongly.

By the way, I rolled my armchair underneath an airworthy B-17 (Miss Angela) about 2 weeks ago and discussed this very topic with one of the current B-17 Type Rated pilots I know. He explained the entire retraction system to me in detail.

'Scuse me while I go get some oil to lube up my armchair... It squeaks when I lean back!

To be honest, I just tried doing a poll to figure out how that part of the board works.

Now all we need is a picture of a wixer being loaded into a bombbay while sitting in an armchair  [/quote]
