Since people seem to think that the off-topic section is for political discussion, something that is frowned upon, I have temporarily closed the section. ANY political discussions in any other forum will be deleted and the user suspended. I have had it with the politically motivated comments.

Well Bill if you saw it on TV it must be true right!
It isn't that I don't want to hear other points of view. My point is that it is against forum rules and the last time we had a debate about this we lost a regular forum member. I don't think we need that. It is obvious by the guy's post that his intentions are to be derogatory toward Christianity as opposed to having a spirited debate over the matter.

Hmmm....a lively debate we had going on here! Hope I don't ruffle any feathers by adding my two cents worth
I guess if I were forced to reveal my political stance, I would say that I am an liberal Repugnizant. Meaning, that I feel as though the ten commandments, no matter how out-dated they may appear to some, are a fine set of guidelines to live one's life by. At the same time, I feel as though we have become a society ruled by the fear of litigation for farting in someone's general direction.
If someone commits a crime as heinous as the one Jack referred to and is guilty beyond any doubt, the parent in me would not want this person to die a peaceful, merciful death, but rather a long, drawn out painful one such as the crime commited against a helpless little child. Drawn and quartered comes immediately to mind.
When we are ruled by lawyers, elect them to positions of power up to and including sitting in the White House, we are all victims. Victims of a ruling elite who wave their banner of superior intelligence and keep us at bay for fear of litigation. Common sense seems to have been legislated and litigated out of our fabric as a nation a long time ago. So sad to see.
I wonder if we will ever see the day that there old, yellowing and crumbling piece of paper called the Constitution is ever adhered to again. Ya know, the part about a governemnt of, by and for the people? Time after time, it is proven that the majority of people in this country are for the death penalty in cases such as this. Why then are these pathetic excuses of human beings given so many chances for their lawyers to find a technicality that will allow them to continue breathing?
Public canings...drawn and quartered...or maybe a pay-per-view execution with the proceeds to go to the victims family?

Ryan, as for the TV show,it presented facts, that I believe are accepted.. I am not certain that they are true, are you certain they are false? I wasn't around at the time of Jesus, were you? Instead of a general condemnation if TV shows, how about stating which of the two points that I wrote are false and why? And I did not write anything antiCchristian.
If as you say you don't want to read our views on the Bible, then why did you come on or reply on this topic? A death penalty discussion naturally leads to what the Bible might say on this. As for me, not a scholar of it, the prohibition of murder would carry more weight as a Commandment than a proverb or saying for killing would.
To those who are very much pro punishment, that assumes that the accused is guilty and we have found, especially with DNA reviews, that this is not always the case. Mistakes and outright bias have made many false convictions.

Bill as usual you have to put words in my mouth. I will bet you $100 that nowhere in this thread did I say you said anything anti-Christian. Secondly, it is against the rules of this forum to debate religion so I shall refrain.

Ryan, you address me in the first sentence about what I saw on TV. Your last sentence is about "the guy's comments are intentionally derogatory toward Christianity".
Perhaps you did not mean that about me, but it was in your post that began, :Bill.
If not about me, I also didn't see any comment by anyone else I would call anti-Christian.
As for as not debating religion, I wasn't the first to raise the issue on this site. It was Michael, then you with biblical quotes.
Mon Mar 31, 2008 12:16 am
Bill, it looks as if there was a misunderstanding. The "guy" I was refering to in that paragraph was Michael not you. It see how it could appear as otherwise.
Anyhow, my comment to you was in jest since there has been many a conversation on WIX about how lame the television media is but apparently that didn't come through.
The point of my initial post wasn't to debate the merits or otherwise of the Christian faith's view on the death penalty it was to simply correct Michael mis-information regarding the the total content of the Bible. I am not debating theology I pointing towards content of the document which is available for anyone to read and make their own determinations. You may notice I am not pitching things one way or another simply giving someone to option to read and decide for themselves. I think it is clear what Michael's intentions are.

Ryan, what is it exactly that is clear to you? Please share with us what my intentions are...
Mon Mar 31, 2008 2:28 pm
Michael,
To be honest I don't think I care enough about this conversation to really discuss it further. My apologies for even getting involved in the first place. My point was only that there are parts of the Bible that do support the death penalty, that are also not in contrary to the 10 commandments as CAPflyer explained. I probably should have left it at that. I withdraw any references I made to what you said or implied.

Ryan, I understand the confusion. I am no Bible expert at all. I do know there can be different interpretations, and I believe there a even different versions, old and new. But I do think most WIX folks are pro Christianity or Jewish.
As for the media, it is a BIG POINT of right wing people to claim media bias or inaccuracy. Of course most major TV and newspapers are owned by wealthy capitalists, and they are a business which must appeal to the majority so how far out are they likely to be? When I read or listen to the media, I try to separate fact from opinion and when I refer to the media I try to quote facts or make it clear that is is opinion, or analysis, or editorializing. The TV show I saw pointed out that the written record of Jesus began about 40 years AD so there is less firm or exact knowledge. It was opinion to claim that his impact is even more remarkable considering there were many other soothsayers or preachers at that time.

Fair enough Bill however I wasn't really referring to a bias as much as a "16
B-52 bombers bombed Tokyo..." mentality.

Ryan, The Tokyo Bombing is Top Secret. I wouldn't write about it or they'll ship you off to Gitmo, which is not a fun place unless you have gills. We know Bush/Cheney never got to attack anybody back in the Nam days and have always felt inadeaquate. We also know that Ford, GM are being swamped by imports mostly from Japan that work better and are cheaper than the home grown versions.
So a little deductive reasoning shows the B-52s will be headed to Tokyo soon. Maybe swing by that nut in N Korea also. They are just waiting for the right time to get a good story out about how Sadaam really sent the WMDs to Japan before the war, hidden inside fortune cookies. Don't spoil the surprise and look for it to occur just before Nov. It's sort of like the govt bailing out out Bear Stearns, but more direct action.
And the bombing will be conventional weapons only. Not from a humane point, they just can't spell NUKLAR.

Bill,
You caught me, after an especially busy and stressful couple of months involved with a corporate merger I have been anticipating a trip to Club Gitmo.
