April fools day it’s not!

Today marks the 84th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Canada’s air force has since 1924 carried on a tradition of excellence that goes far beyond its size. Known up to unification as the Royal Canadian Air Force and since as the Canadian Air Force it’s members have served Canada in every major theater of war and virtually every mission of humanitarian aid in the 20th and 21st centuries.

In peace time the Canadian Air Force has accomplished amazing missions bringing food and medical aid to people in the far flung corners of the world during time of disaster and hunger. The skills and selflessness shown in daring search and rescue missions have earned the members of the Canadian Air Force the respect of their peers around the world.

A huge tribute to the air and ground crews that during peace time have maintained capability while operating on comparative shoe string budgets, often with equipment long past its prime.

During the Cold War the Canadian Squadrons in Europe were part of the hard edge of the Sword. Standing guard in a time of “Mutual Assured Destruction” in a nuclear age. While at home guarding the Arctic and both coasts.

In each war of the 20th and 21st century Canadians of the Air Force have served their country proudly and bravely, often paying the ultimate price in the line of duty.

So take minute today to think of those that have served Canada’s Air Force, and the many thousands that gave their lives while serving their country in the skies around the world and at home.

Thanks

Tom H
