Anyone know the history of this V-1? Real or Replica? / Where is it now?

And a pic of the dragon for good measure!

WOW ! Talk about your small world. Some of the statics found there way to Rio Hondo for display when they cleaned up the airport. The Skyraider and F-102 were two of those. The Skyraider is now up at Tyler at the HAMM museum and the F-102 just arrived at Ft Worth after a long road trip !

Rick,

Isn't the new Fort Worth 102 a two-seater?

Someone had a listing of the final disposition of all the airplanes in corrosion corner at Harlingen. I'd like to see that updated to the current time if anyone has the info.

Yep, you're right Scott. OOps ! I didn't look at the old picture that close, that's what I get for skimming.

I'm curious. After seeing all of the great pictures I have a question. When the CAF moved to Midland, how did all of the non-fliers get moved?

What happened to the B-47 and C-124?

I saw the C-124 being disassembled. All four engine QEC's on a flat bed truck, the fuselage split thru the middle, lengthwise, and loaded in sections in a C-5B.

Thanks, John.

I knew I had seen a list of the cast-offs somewhere. The cockpit of the C-54 became a museum display somewhere, didn't it?

Amazing. I need to get down there one day. I particularly like this photo

Image

The USN/USMC line up with the Twin Mustang off in the distance. Poignant. Makes me wish I had more photos of air shows from when I was a young kid. I remember a B-25 fly in at NAS/JRB Willow Grove in the mid 80s. I am still looking for photos from that show.

Most if not all of the static displays shown on the old CAF ramp belonged to the various service museums and were on loan only. The C-54 seems to have belonged to the CAF, as once it was found to be too corroded to even move by road, the nose was salvaged and is now part of a display in the American Airpower Heritage Museum in Midland.

This is another pair that I wish I had taken more photos of:

I took this picture of the film crew shooting ground material just before the final flight. I remember that you could still smell the fresh paint on her if you got close enough.

OK, here are some more of my AIRSHO 80 pics.

This Cat was the last to leave Harlingen out of the whole operation. Last I saw it was in the early 90s sitting on its tail sans engines.

I like this pic.
