The National Archives and Ancestry.com are offering free until May 31st, access to military records of about 100 million individuals including Draft Registration cards from both wars, images of Civil War headstones and Viet Nam POW records.
This is absolutely free of charge until May 31, after that you will need a subscription to acess the records.

I think I can see why they are allowing free searches. Their database is missing a lot of information.

I found no reference to my service record during Desert Storm.
I found no reference to either of my Grandfather's records from WWII.

I could not find any record of my Dad's service (Virgil Dean Hemphill, US Navy, 1952 - 1956).

Found my dad's older brother Donald, a career Army man who was buried at Arlington; but not my dad, or our family friend the B-24 gunner.
