IIRC, back when the CAF got the Martin B-26 flying, it first had 3 bladed props from a C-123 installed. Overall performance was marginal to poor and there were airframe vibrations. They were later replaced with 4 bladers and the vibration disappeared and performance was normal. Can't remember where or what the 4 bladed ones came off of, though.

Didn't they trash the 4-blade 'toothpick' props with a nosegear collapse?

Yeah, I do remember the nose gear collapse but as to toothpick props, I dunno. My 75 year old memory chip isn't what is once was!

No problem, we were just trying to set the record straight. Everybody makes mistakes, including myself! :D

I just thought it was very odd, as I had two very good friends who have known the Whittingtons since the 70's. They told me a lot of things about the Whittingtons which were not public knowledge and not once did I hear them talk about a contra-rotating prop Bearcat. I was going to say, if true, that would have been the best kept warbird secret in the history of aviation.

Thanks for following up on that info, btw! :D

I hope this is not to stupid of a thought. Is it possible to swing a four bladed prop on a Hellcat, early Corsair so on,is it a airframe ,engine app. gear, or is it just not to be?

Definitely to be! Would've manifested itself in the F6F-6, but which never went into production.

Dug in a little deeper on "special" Hellcats. The pic I originally posted isn't an XF6F-6, but rather the XF6F-2 nicknamed "Fuzzy Wuzzy". Check the following links for more pics & info on this unique Hellcat. Pretty cool.

Here's a look at one of the two XF6F-6's. I think this pic comes from PAX River (But my memory isn't getting any younger).
