This restoration was a labor of love, if I recall correctly, Frank Schelling spent 32 years restoring this plane.

Sure there are, and yet how many of those are even more than a couple pieces of wood and a plate?

Amazing but true, there appears to be about eight flying/flyable Jennies in the U.S.. Although the population will be growing soon with at least one ready to cover and ten or so under active restoration. There at least six or more static in museums with following flying:

Owl's Head, ME
FHC, WA
WAAAM, OR
Wichita Falls, TX
Roger Freeman, TX
Ken Hyde, VA

I am not certain about Kermit Weeks, but more "Grand Old Ladies" are on the way!

Ken Hyde's hasn't flown since about 1993 or so, is now in the museum in Richmond, and isn't likely to fly again any time soon (needs at least new fabric at this point), but he is working on another for a customer, and it's about ready for cover. Also, in Bethel, PA, the Golden Age Air Museum has one just about ready for cover, might fly this year sometime I suppose, more likely next spring probably.

Kermit's Jenny had a lot of work done by Century Aviation out in Washington State, but they're having to re-do some of it. It could be ready by next year maybe if they have time and manpower available to finish it up in FL.

The Canuck at Creve Coeur's Historic Aircraft Restoration Museum returned to the air in April after Glen Peck put fresh fabric on it and IRANed the OX-5. I think Frank's Jenny is the only flyable Hisso powered Jenny right?

I beleive so, most flyers are OX powered.

This is the same a/c at Oshkosh in 2004. Indeed, a lovely restoration !



We were waiting in-line at the Vintage Area breakfast tent early n the morning when a kid came running, shouting "the Jenny is coming, the jenny is coming!".

We all rushed outside to see it swoop in on final and land in the ultralight area grass runway. Lovely sound too the Hispano-Suiza engine !

Right on Roger...I was there @ 7AM and wandered over to Frank's hangar. He & Eric were there & had just made the decision to put it off for that day. The Jenny does get out & fly pretty often though.

Skeeter Carlson up here in Spokane has a Canuck that is a semi-active flyer...flying every once or twice every few years. I think his airplane still has the original oil in it too....
