This is what it would look like:

Image

The colors would represent: Red for the civilian use (fire bombers), Green for it's use by many countries (Green Planet), Black for it's wartime service (Black Cats), and yellow for the dumbo missions as used by the USAF. The colors are in waves to represent all the open water landings it had to make to save others (even though PBYs weren't designed for open water landings.

BTW, does any one if the PBY that had to ditch of Cristmas Island while being ferried was ever recovered?

I have never seen a case of flying airsickness until now :).............................. to each his own, it would be your plane, paint it how you wish.

The PBY that ditched is on the bottom of the ocean, and unless you have a ROV and ton of money, that is where it will stay.

P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer.

S: Took hammer away from midget.

Make the colored bands straight and it might pass for an old Prov. or Saskatchewan tanker.

There are several countries in Africa who are even at this moment considering suing you for stealing their flag designs...

Seriously, I think it looks bad the way you have it, but on the real thing in more subdued colors it might look okay.

The best way to see how it'd look is to find a PBY model in Flight Simulator and paint it like you want it to look and then look at it in FS. I've found that to be a good way of getting an idea of what the real thing might look like. Your use of bright colors on that profile makes it look really gawdy, but I don't know if that'd transfer as much to a real aircraft with highlighting and a true finish (i.e. not pastel).

I agree with the flightsim thing. That's how I tested my spitfire paint.

It takes a bit of skill but when it's done you can view it from every angle you like (and fly things you can't afford in the real world :P ).

Wouldn't look too bad with invasion stripes, would give it that authintic look, you have to remember the sky was black with them on June 6
