This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Interesting photos! Was the On Mark converted Invader an enginetestbed?

Hey Matt, Were the B-17s outside of Gene Packards place. I noticed the Connie tail in the background and I know they had a few out there too. Also, is that the 4Y that is now at Lone Star?

That is Gene's place, at one time there were 5 B-17s based at Falcon Field.
The B-17s in the pictures are now know as
N17W tanker 04 B-17F 42-29782 Boeing Bee
N93012 tanker 99 B-17G 44-83575 Nine o Nine
N3193G tanker 34 B-17G 44-85829 Yankee Lady
N9563Z tanker 89 B-17G 44-83563 Fuddy Duddy
C30 is now with the LSFM

Matt,
Thanks for the pic of Charlie 30. It looks a bit different now with almost all turrets back on though its still mostly nat. metal with some green primer here and there.
The restoration of that a/c is back on officially. It passed all its wing spar tests. Larry said, broadly speaking of course, "...a couple of years at least." I suggested that it would be totally cool to fly it to P'cola in '011 for the Naval aviation centennial. Come in with a big escort of Corsairs and Grumman Cats. No harm in dreaming.
The big R-2600 sell off at H&P benefited LSFM greatly. You were there and may have crossed paths with Larry and John.
floats up!

I believe the Invader was used by Garrett as an engine test bed before being donated to one of the local high schools in the Phoenix area. (I forget which one)

I hope to visit the school this summer and get detail shots of it. By the way, I noticed Honeywell replaced the Boeing 720 that was at KPHX with a 757... anyone know what happened to the four-holer?

I really enjoy WIXers digging in their archives and pulling out these excellent photos. Thanks, Matt!
Here is a picture I took last Sunday of Tanker C30:
Kinda reminded me a little of the project we helped with last year.
Jeff, bring on more photos, I love 'em all.

This one was still working until the early 90's and was recently sold along with a large group of N3N projects. The aircraft is currently for sale again disassembled and Less FWF, if anyone is interested I can foreward the contact info.
