This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

On my way to recycling @ Ellington I sighted a F101 Voodoo parked near the Cliff Hyde Flying Service . SN: 90424. Plane is rough and has no engines.
Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me but will try to get some pics next week.

Can't wait to see the pictures when you get them. It's getting hard to find Voodoos anymore. They seem to be pretty well spread out.

I'm pretty sure there is one out in front of the Pocatello, ID airport, KPIH. I remember it being there from college days.

Many years ago, when the Canadian Forces were still flying Voodoo's, I shot a picture of a pair taking off from Paine Field in Washington. One of the aircraft had one burner lit and one that wasn't. A couple of years later, at the same show, I showed them to a pilot of the Forces. He got really excited and said that he had complained about that happening on takeoff many times about that plane and no one had ever believed him. Now he had photographic evidence. Of course the Voodoo's had been retired, but at least he was right. I wish I still had that picture.

This particular Voodoo was supposed to be put on display in lufkin TX many years ago. The aircraft made it up there but the display part never happened. The Guard had given its dedicated static bird to a group in Victoria so the 147th had this one helicoptered back to EFD. It has been on the back burner for a while. Mostly due to a lack of volunteers from the unit. ( Being BRACed, losing your jets, and your job might have an affect on yor willingness to bput in extra time ) The CF Houston contingent has been working with the City and the Guard to help create an airpark of representative types that have served at EFD over the years. To that end we helped repaint their F-4D last October. The airpark idea is still in the initial planning stages. An F-101 is supposed to be part of the line up, we'l see if its going to be this aircraft.

Rick,
As an sircraft that flew in service until at least the early to mid-80s time frame, do you have any thoughts on how complicated or expensive it would be (if even remotely possible) to bring one of the two seat Voodoos (F-101B or F-101F) or possibly an ex-Canadian example back to flying status?

Thanks for the pictures.

Can you imagine the cost of the fuel burn for one of these beasts! Is this example an ex RCAF One?

I'm curious to know if this is the same Voodoo that was laying in pieces at Wolf Field about ten years ago? Don't remember the TANG flash on the fin, always wondered what became of that bird.
Love the EFD Park idea! I go back to Delta Dart days myself.

Peter, this is an actual 147th FIG, 111th FIS , TANG aircraft.
The Voodoo at Wolf Airpark, was an F101A model. It was owned by Rick Sharpe who sold it to Dean Martin. They trucked it out years ago. Don't know where it went after that.
Could one be made to fly ? Sure, you'd want to start ot with one that was relatively complete, though. Don't know the state of spares out in the real world. J-57s with papers would be a must and the correct dash might not be readily available, but with a little time, and a bucket of dollars, it shouldn't be impossible.
